Like I said, Unicus, James comments get completely dismissed, I screwed up and fixed it, I am not averse to admitting a mistake, i make lots of them. So do you and so does everyone.

However, I think the original Title, at least, should reflect the front cover title.

Since when do we put the "front cover title" in the "Original Title" field.

That's a brand new one on me!

Seems like a good time to point people to my signature    Fortunately Ken seems to know "ease of use and entry" are important to his customers as well.

Thanks Ken!

DVD Profiler must walk a fine line between enough accuracy to keep one side of the aisle happy while maintaining ease of use and entry to keep the other, generally somewhat silent and large majority happy.  My development experience is not trivial, and I've been forced to design systems where one person's concept of accuracy has driven the project into the ground, completely unusable to the end users.  I don't plan to make that mistake here.

Yes, I am also very happy to see that the owner of DVD Profiler is such a wise man.

I think I was the one who came up with the US Copyright Office lookup, but after I did Ken clarified the rule to indicate he just wanted us to look at the front cover and the back cover copyright blurb.  I don't think as the rules stand that the Copyright Office lookup is even relevant.  I would have liked it if it were, but I don't think it is under the rules as they now stand, and I therefore don't use it as a source for title in my contributions.

I disagree with you, Gard, under the Rules I think it is a verifiable source of data, that is at the very least more correct than the credit block, which is neither correct nor consistent.

Regardless, it's still a third party database, and as such inadmissable as a source without multiple other sources to back it up.

LOL, for a title lookup the US Copyright Office is the ultimate authority relative to how any title has been coyrighted by those that hold said rights. We are also allowed to use even IMDb as a REFERENCE source, we cannot copy from another website and IMDb as a reference source is highly questionable on its own.

What is not to understand, Achim? Are we after accuracy or not. It can be repeatedly proven that the Credit Block is not ALWAYS correct in application. This new Rule is being used to simply dispose of the possessive that was previously allowed regardless of whether that is correct or not.<shrugs>

Well, your thinking is wrong.  I explained it once before and you ignored it.

According to you, the rules allow you to look at the US Copyright website to verify the title.  Well, if I go to that site and look up 'The Thing' it clearly states, "John Carpenter’s The Thing".  If your interpretation was correct, I should be able to enter that as the title per the rules.

Unfortunately, I can't.  Why?  Because the rules clearly state that the title is "The Thing".  Since the example in the rules goes against your interpretation, your interpretation has to be wrong.  I am sorry, but there is no other logical conclusion.  One would have to be blind not to see that.

You are correct.  They are the ultimate source relative to how it has been copyrighted.  The rules, however, do not tell us to enter the copyrighted title.  They tell us to enter the title from the DVD case.

The rules also tell us that, "The authoritative source for information submitted should be the DVD itself."  The go on to say, "Please don't submit content from a third party database..."  Like it or not, the US Copyright Office website is a 3rd party db.
