General DiscussionNew posts in this threadVery weird experience this morning
That's definitely weird.

So they just wanted to pay you $10 to use their credit card and driver's license? That makes little sense though. Did they specify what exactly to do with them afterwards?

Quoting GreyHulk:
Looks like we need a Birth Year for both of the following...

Patrick O'Connell (1934) - British Actor - Doctor Who, Fraud Squad, The Persuaders, The Protectors, The Professionals, The Saint, Yes Minister ... and more.

Patrick O'Connell (1957) - American Actor - Iron Man, Numb3rs, NYPD Blue, Supergirl (TV), The West Wing ... and more.

Now both approved and in the database.

Contribution DiscussionNew posts in this threadCommon name for Producer: Michael Bregman / Michael S. Bregman / Michael Scott Bregman
Found another  title entry in CLT "Table One" (2000) --> Michael Scott Bregman still to be confirmed.
Confirming could probably break the tie.

Quoting Gamemaster:
In this specific case you wouldn't list a Visual Effects Director.

That may very well be, but we can't know that for sure from those credits. It's not that I won't list a Visual Effects Director - I certainly would, every time someone is credited as a Visual Effects Director, I diligently enter him into my profile. What I won't do, however - and IMHO that's what the rules tell us to do - is list someone without a job description. Whether that person turns out to be a visual effects director, a visual effects producer, a visual effects director of photography, a compositor, a rotoscoper, an animator, or whatever else, doesn't matter. We can't make that distinction if the credits don't tell us - that's the whole problem. The choice is: either you list dozens of people - I've even seen up to sixty people in such groups! - in the hope of catching one or two significant jobs of the kind we'd track if they were individual credits, or we don't list any of them, then losing one or two significant jobs of the kind we'd track if they were individual credits. There's something to say for both approaches, certainly, but by demanding "Individual Credits", the rules have made that choice for me. Whether that particular rule happens to be "popular" or not doesn't change that.

Contribution DiscussionNew posts in this threadNon-standard UPC codes
Recently I opted to rescan my entire library and add the missing entries to the on-line database. Typically, in the past what I've done was if something was missing, I just found another match that was close enough. This came out to about 200 titles. I've gotten through most of the horror movies, and most so far were alternate Lion's Gate releases with UPCs that differ only slightly with the identical disk IDs or Canadian versions not yet added, again, often with the same disk ID as the US release, just with bilingual sleeves. Ironically, these often have the English/French sleeves, but no French on the disk itself, just the English/Spanish. The odd patterns one notices when you do a large batch of submissions in a short period of time.

A couple days ago attempted to submit an entry for a Japanese version of a movie called Naked Blood. The DVD was released back in 2002, largely before the whole extreme horror and torture-porn craze. This DVD has a non-standard 14 digit bar code and is the typical cheap Japanese-type release, but it gets the job done. Back in 2003, when I added this to my original DB the barcode worked fine and I can see it in there with the barcode. I remember when the barcode was expanded to require the full 12 digits rather than the 10, but when, and why was the functionality for longer barcodes removed? Was it at the same time?

Contribution DiscussionNew posts in this threadPinned: List of proven INVALID Birth Years  (1 2 3 ...13 )
I've noticed a new birth year for Frank Welker slipped into the database. 1945 is already in the list, but now I've also got 1946 as a birth year. Though 1946 seems to be the correct birth year, there's still one Frank Welker in the database. So this birth year is also not needed.

I checked this with a few discs (BD and 4K BD) and can not confirm this. Everything works as usual.
