| Posted: | | | | I bought one last Friday. I spent the majority of the weekend getting it set up the way I wanted it. Incredible picture, especially for 3D.
In the near future I am going to get a 4K player for my home theater system and a 4K drive for my pc. Anyone have any suggestions for either one or both at a reasonable price? | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |

I was not able to afford the 2016 65'' OLED E6 (about 5k EUR) or G6 (about 6k EUR), do not like the curved C6, and the B6 was not 3D. The first Blu-ray disc drives that support playback of Ultra HD Blu-ray discs have only been announced. Concerning 4k players, there is the HDR confusion (10bit static HDR-10 vs. 12bit dynamic DolbyVision). And HDMI 2.1 is coming. | | | Don't confuse while the film is playing with when the film is played. [Ken Cole, DVD Profiler Architect] |

| Posted: | | | | And if the Oppo is too expensive for you, go for the Panasonic DMP-UB700. No Dolby Vision on that one, I'm afraid, but otherwise a great player. BTW congratulations with your OLED TV! Bought an E6 myself last year and I fully agree with your assessment! There is an online petition to LG going on with over 9,000 signatures to bring back 3D on their 2018 OLED line-up, as the 3D on OLED is amazing. | | | Last edited: by dee1959jay |

| Posted: | | | | Don't know if it is important for you, but while being more expensive, the Oppo is codefree (DVD & Blu-ray), the Panasonic is region locked. |

| Posted: | | | | No, the Oppo is region locked as per the requirements of the blu-ray association (it would be illegal to sell it codefree out of the box), but can be fitted with a region-free modification, at some extra expense of course. Some dealers will install the mod for you.
BTW: while blu-rays (and DVDs) have zones (regions), Ultra HD blu-rays don't. | | | Last edited: by dee1959jay |

| Posted: | | | | Thanks for all the info. It looks to me, at the current stage of technology, the Oppo is the best option. I just bought an Onkyo TX-NR757 receiver a couple months ago and am very pleased with it. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |

| Posted: | | | | You're welcome. If you can afford it, by all means go for the Oppo! Haven't bought into Ultra HD blu-ray myself yet, but I've been a happy Oppo customer for years now! Their customer service is exemplary. | | | Last edited: by dee1959jay |

| Posted: | | | | Gosh darn it. When will it end! My Home Theater is obsolete again????? (I guess in reality it was obsolete before I even got it installed ...) I am also a big fan of Onkyo and LG. I have had problems, but they were resolved by outstanding customer service from both companies. Wish I could afford upgrades, although my LG is brand new due to a warranty replacement - my 2013 model was not available to replace, so they sent me an amazing 3D 2016 model - which no thanks to you guys, I am now discovering is already obsolete! | | | Thanks for your support. I only buy Region A or Region free discs. But there are times when the 3D version of a film is available in other countries way before the US. So region free would be helpful to buy overseas. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |

Besides the thing about players, there were actually considerably more 3D Blu-rays released in 2016 than any previous year in the US and more than any year since 2011 worldwide and Target started carrying 3D discs again after dropping them and Disney US started publishing them again. | | | Last edited: by Ace_of_Sevens |

Pretty steep price by US standards (over here in Europe we pay a lot more anyway), if you ask me. The standard region-locked player sells for $549. |

When budget allows, I might swap out my el cheapo iVid all-region for an Oppo, based on the discussion here (but will I see /hear any difference?) On the other topic, maybe 3D will see a resurgence. I find that the most recent ones I have seen in the theater were less stressful to my eyes and did bring a worthwhile enhancement to viewing. | | | Thanks for your support.
