Outside of the contribution discussion?

It makes it hard to find a thread about any other topic amongst the 80% per page Common Name threads.

Well, the common name-finding threads seem to be the only "contribution"-related threads that seem to actually achieve something, as opposed to the other threads where we keep going around in circles on the same subjects for year after year, without getting anywhere. As such, it seems like the sole purpose of these forums is to document common names and birth years.

If one wishes to speak in circles, having all this other useful stuff mixed in with it just makes it more difficult to find the useless stuff. Splitting it out into its own forum just makes sense.

I always thought it was a good idea as well... we have brought it up a couple times before but never had any luck getting it done.

Since "contribution discussions" is all about common names, it seems better to rename it.

You're the second person to make a comment along the lines of "it's only common names anyway".  Perhaps if they were split out, the "other" stuff wouldn't be buried and get more attention.  Or perhaps Contribution Discussions would turn into a barren wasteland.  And I'm fine with that.  We don't combine forums when two or more have little traffic.  I see no problem with splitting them out.  While they may be related, they're still two different things (common name threads and the other stuff) and should be placed into separate buckets.  I don't care how big or little each of those buckets ends up being.  I care that I can easily find the topics that interests me.  That's the whole point of categorizing things, so it can be easily found again.  It has nothing to do with distributing load.

In short, I'm not buying that argument.  They really do belong in their own forum in my opinion.

If nothing else a sub-forum of the contribution forum.
