| Posted: | | | | I've downloaded the free trial, so far so good, hopefully someone can answer these questions for me. 1: I'll be adding my DVD's that I wish to keep from 200+ collection and 250+ Blu Rays to it, I trust this will be fine? 2: I have three Home PC's and one Laptop (4 machines in total) on my home network and use them all for different jobs in different rooms, these are all in one home of course and under one roof and would like to have DVDProfiler installed on all four without extra penalty when I decide to buy the full license, is this possible? reason I ask is I have a program called Digiguide TV scheduler that only allows three installs per home that is most frustrating for me, means if I want to check what's on TV I have to shut down the PC I'm working on and power up one that is allowed an install 3: I'm thinking of buying a laser bar code scanner specifically for ease of scanning my disc collection bar codes and adding the DVD Profiler database, been looking at this one on UK Amazon, would this be suitable? This one here Click4: If that is not suitable could someone please advise something that is in that price range from a UK retailer. 5: There is no question 5 Thanks in advance. Colin |

Fine in terms of handling that number? Absolutely. I only have ~1000 titles in my DB but other have crossed the 10k without problems. Quote: 2: ... and would like to have DVDProfiler installed on all four Installing: yes. But using is another area. As Profiler use a database, you should under no circumstance open the database from more than one program at a time. So either you put the data on a shared folder (or a NAS) and open it from one machine at a time, or you let it run on your main machine an connect the other clients to it. But in the latter scenario you have basically only the option to watch the database entries and IIRC set stuff as watched-dates. Quote: 3: ...would this be suitable? The details are a little wobbly, but "Support Interface: PS / 2 keyboard port" lets me assume: Yes Background: DVD Profiler doesn't really works with any barcode scanner, the barcode scanner has to act as a keyboard and everything is peachy. Quote: 4: If that is not suitable could someone please advise something that is in that price range from a UK retailer. If you have a smartphone you could just scan the barcodes with e.g. barcode2file, send the list to your PC and in the Add DVD dialog just choose "add multiple" and open the list. cya, Mithi | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |

Hi Mithi and thanks for answering my questions.
Although I have four PC's only one at a time would ever be used and yes I do have a NAS drive on the network but I don't have much faith in it to be honest, its only 2 weeks old and has frozen and needed resetting a few times.
Where is the database itself stored? is it on the PC and synced between my other PC's on my home network or on Invelos servers online ... this may seem like a dumb question but I'm really not sure?
This seems like great software though and will start adding my collection this week. |

| Posted: | | | | By default the database is stored on your local PC in the following location:
C:\Users\[Your User Name Here]\Documents\DVD Profiler\Databases\
and that USB scanner will be perfectly find for DVDProfiler. | | | Last edited: by rdodolak |

| Posted: | | | | An important option that was briefly mentioned is the ability to run the database in client server mode. This is a supported way of having multiple PC users accessing the same database. However, only the server can make profile updates in this mode. This is very handy for keeping all PCs synched. For updates, I use the server, or temporarily restore a copy of the master database on any PC, make my updates, back it up, then restore to the server. All other PCs and mobil devices automatically see the updates. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!!
