It's that time of the year and I am feeling a little nostalgic.  Does anyone here have something that they did/do every year around this time.

For instance my family did away with big Thanksgiving dinners years ago.  But when we used to have them the three things that always happened were Football, and the Sound of Music on one of two TV's and the kids got to watch the Peanut's special.

Even though my family no longer gets together I think I am going to relive those memories this year.  A small Thanksgiving dinner with my immediate family, skip the football, borrow a copy of the Sound of Music and finish the night with the Peanut's Special.

What do you all think?

Sounds like an excellent plan...except for the no football.  Enjoy!  Hope you have a good time!

Agreed.

In October growing up, my father would finish his summer work, the school allowed my brother and me to get out (though we still had homework,) and we would all go on a two-week vacation to the beach. Now that I live 3 1/2 hours hours away instead of 8 1/2 hours from the same location, it's just not the same going down there anymore (plus, it's by far busier than it was 25 years ago.... we practically had the entire beach to ourselves even into my teens, and now it's umbrella chairs 10 feet apart everywhere for a quarter mile in either direction.)

For Thanksgiving and Christmas, everyone in the family came to our home. Mom fixed a huge meal almost entirely by herself with leftovers that lasted a week. It was the only time some parts of my family ever saw each other. So now, as a result of things changing over the years, I now have nieces and nephews (cousins to each other) who haven't seen each other in two decades even though my siblings and I all live an hour apart.

Those were some great years back then.

My wife and I used to go to a friends house every Thanksgiving.  There was always a big family there.  Everyone brought a dish.  There was always a ton of food.  And of course the football.  But, all of that is gone...except for the memories.  This year, Thanksgiving will be at a wound rehab center where my wife is.  We'll be together...and that's what is important...

I'd watch football, but I am a Redskins fan and am just too depressed to bare it.

I hope she beats her demons.  I have worked in addiction for a long time I have seen many successes and hope our wife will enjoy success as well.

We don't have that tradition here. All our family get togethers happen at Christmas. (And instead of Peanuts we watch Donald Duck!) But holidays were much more fun when I was a kid, now it's more of an ordeal one has to get through.

My family was close when I was a kid but by the time I was a teen we had grown apart.  It got to the point that I found the belief that Thanksgiving and Christmas were invented so you only had to see your family twice a year.

It's not for an addiction.  It's for wounds. Diabetic foot ulcers.  She is getting better. Thank you for your thoughts.

Ouch.  first let me apologize.  Most times when someone says they have a family member in rehab they mean for other things.  I must have missed the word wound when I read it the first time.  Her stuff sounds just as painful and she has a long journey as well.  I hope she is better soon.
