Have 600 DVD's loaded and wanted to print them out.  Keep getting a message that I'm not connected and I'm to ensure that the profiler is running and that sharing is active.  Any suggestions? Can't seem to get it to print.

I'm afraid you will need the paid version of DVDP for Windows for that. The free version only allows printing for up to 50 discs. I guess this is something Invelos should improve because you did buy a version of DVDP, just not the desktop version. Still, the desktop version is well worth the one-time purchase. You will get all future updates/upgrades without ever having to pay again.

Don't mean to be ignorant but I use an iPad2 and an iPhone5.  Do I still need a desktop version?  I do have a PC as well but isn't there a "desktop" version for the iPad?  Thanks for your help.

Do you mean that there is no way to print if all you have is the iOS version? That seems… odd.

I have the desktop version so it's not a big deal for me but still… what about people without desktops (or laptops)? I wonder how they'll handle it going forward after the release of Windows 8. Will they embrace the Metro UI (eventually supporting Windows RT and Windows Phone 6)?

The iOS version relies on the desktop version for printing. It connects to the desktop version, shows you what reports are available on the desktop, and then fires off the printing from the desktop version. You need to have the desktop version installed and have all the profiles on the iOS version synced with the desktop for printing to work reliably.

It's a sort of remote printing solution.

No, there is no desktop version for the iPad. The app is universal and works both on iPhone and iPad. While there are some differences (like the Showcase mode that is only available on an iPad), there is no added functionality in the iPad version. Many tasks are only possible with the PC version. The iOS app is great to always have your collection with you and quickly mark a film as watched. And I love the ability to scan the barcode with my phone. But for more than basic tasks the PC version is still needed.

I don't think people who only have a tablet or smartphone are too concerned with printing reports, unless they used to have a desktop or laptop previously. And I don't think anyone is completely getting rid of computers any time soon.
As for Windows 8, I think the people who are forced to use that mess of an OS have bigger problems than DVDP. At least on the full version of Windows 8 DVDP will still work. If Ken decides to make a version for Windows RT will depend on the success of the OS. If massive amounts of Windows 8 tablets are sold (which I doubt), I'm sure he will try to free up time to support Win 8 RT. But there are only so many hours in a day and one man can't support every OS.
