Now we have multiple client types that access the server portion of the application via the net (either another PC or iPhone app) it seems to make sense to split the GUI and server side application.

This means you can have the server running as a windows service whilst the GUI could be even more lightweight and connect from anywhere.

Just my thoughts

Agreed, it would be nice.  But I think something like this would take much too valuable time to develop while only a minority of users would benefit.

can you not disconnect the user interface layer and back end layer and make the back end as a service in windows
