Before I purchase this software can anyone tell me is there a 10 fioot interface / layout available that can be used on a large screen TV -- and is it possible to control the software with a remote control using windows messaging (send message) or some other API?

There are several Layouts available, and with a bit trial-and-error you can modify one to your liking. I for one use the "Showroom"

I honestly don't know, but just give it a try. If you have less then 50 titles in your (test-)database the unregistered version works just like the registered one, see here. Only things you lack are Hi-Res cover-scans and contributions, both not necessary for testing I think.

I want to use the software from a distance of 10 feet using an IR remote control (not a keyboard or a mouse) -- getting the IR control to work is not the issue here as I have it working for SageTV and Zoomplayer - what I need to know is there any method of controlling this software through a remote api / shortcut keys using an automation software such as Girder?
