I've spent about 5 hours with this great programme, but can't quite seem t get past the first hurdle!  So if anyone can help...I'm desperate!

I installed ver 3.6 with no probs.  But when I try to add DVD it opens the "Internet Database Connection" windows and attempts to download the "Online Orfile list" in 10 parts.  I understand this is normal immediately after nstallation - and that it should take a while.  However - for me each "part" initaially download quickly until it reaches typically 704 - 996 KB/1.9MB then freezes.  Eventually after several minutes of no visible activity the next "part" begins to download until it reaches 704 - 996KB, etc, etc!  After part 10 an new window opens saying "Unable to download file.  Continue anyway?".  At which point my only option is to start again!

I have gone through this several times.  Deleted the install and re-installed.  Redownloaded the installation files - and used them.  Repaired the database several times.

This is driving my to distraction - DVD Profiler seems to be exactly what I need, i just can't quite get it started.  So if anyone can assist...

For info:
- I'm running a fairly modern/decent spect PC with WinXP SP3
- My hard dosk has plenty of space
- I'm trying to use DVD Profiler ver 3.6
- My broadband is fine (passes the Profiler connection test) every time

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I'm sure that others with more computer knowledge will be able to help you.

But, in the meantime, I have one idea.

I noticed that you have not bought the program - if you had there would be an eye next to your name - which means that there are some limitations built in. You can find more information here: http://invelos.com/dvdpro/Registration.

Close DVDProfiler and try to manually download the OnlineList.dod from here.
Save this file to "My Documents -> DVDProfiler" and restart DVDProfiler afterwards
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Thanks for the prompt replies folks!

Kathy:  Yup I did consider ergistering to see of it would help.  But from what i have read downloading the onlinelist.dod file is such a core part of the functionality of DVDP that joining should have no impact on my plight - so I reckoned that unless I can get this fixed there is no point in registering.  Believe me I'm keen to register - seems like a great product!

Mediadogg:  Yup tried that - just starts the download process afresh.

Silence:  Thanks - I'll give that a go.  Early on I found this direct link in a post - then when I wanted to try it I could not find it again.  Thx for the link.

Cheers folks.

I have now tried Silence's direct link a couple of times.  The good news is that DVDP is now working for me - to a degree, which is brill.  But all is not quite right.

I have tried the download 4 times - on each occasion I saved to desktop and editted the file name.  Each time it downloads a different sized file.  So far I have collected... 1.67MB, 0.97MB, 0.80MB and 1.11MB.  What should I get from the download? Around 10MB every time?

I'm a bit confused to be honest.  Its almost as if something is throttling back the download(which drops to around 10kb/s when dowloading this file) - but i get no timeout message.  Switching my firewall off(Norton) made no difference.  There is still the NAT active in my router, but that has never been an issue in the last 7 years so I doubt it is now?!

Any more suggestions?

How frustrating. The only other suggestion I can  think of is to directly contact Ken, the owner of the program.

You can open a a technical support ticket found here: http://invelos.com/Support.aspx.

Good luck!

It's around 19.5 MB, and I just downloaded it in about 40 seconds.  It sounds like some kind of issue at your end.  Could it possibly be your AV scanner rather than the firewall?

From Silence's Link? I just downloaded 19,6MB in 2 or 3 minutes just now.

Strange, but definitely a networkproblem. But I'm a bit stumped as to what it could be. The usual suspect is a overzealous Virus-Scanner, but you already switched him of.

Yeah I'm begining to think theres a problem at my end - I'll contact my broadband provider tomorrow.

Strange thing is - I download stuff all the time with no issue - what is it about this particular file?!?!?!

When I run the prog and try to add DVDs I get a lot of unrecognised DVDs - I'm guessing thats because I only have a fraction of the reference database downloaded.  /shrug.

Thanks again folks - your help is appreciated!    I'm determined to get this working before I register!

I can't explain why - but without changing anything the file downloaded just fine.  /boggle  The program is running sweetly -  so I registered!!!

Thanks for the help folks - especially Silence!
