| Posted: | | | | Many (most?) films released by Touchstone Pictures and Walt Disney Pictures have this somewhere at the very end of the end credits: Until now, I've never seen anyone entering "Buena Vista Pictures Distribution" as the "theatrical release studio" for these - not even on extremely high-profile films in usually well-maintained localities - but now, there's someone busy adding it. Is this right, or isn't it? To use an example: I feel that the theatrical release studio for, say, 'The Lion King' is Walt Disney Pictures, not Buena Vista Pictures Distribution. Or did over 60 different 'The Lion King' profiles throughout the various regions and localities get it wrong? The latter may be the actual company name, but it's clearly being released under it's Walt Disney Pictures banner. I like the media companies rule that says: " Some companies (using similar but different names) may serve more than one function. List such companies only once, using the name from the logo." That seems to be pretty much what's happening here: the same company is credited twice under two name variants: once under it's big, well-known banner name of "Walt Disney Pictures", and once under it's actual, real-life company name. Thoughts? |

Thoughts? The screen cap seems pretty clear to me. And the media company rule does apply for the media companies but not for the studios. In that reasoning only New Line Cinema or New Line Productions should be entered when they are credited and so on. I want to take this even further. Walt Disney Pictures isn't the Theatrical Release Studio. It's the production studio. The Walt Disney company has never put their distribution strain Buena Vista (for theatrical release, home video release and so on) prominently in spotlights. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buena_Vista_(Walt_Disney_Company). Are we now ignoring the film credits as well? | | | Cor | | | Last edited: by Corne |

| Posted: | | | | I'd propose to cut all such names short to Buena Vista Pictures, or even Buena Vista, to reduce the number of varieties of names, when they are all within one company with the same distinctive name. Just like we remove the "Inc.", get back to the basics. | | | Hans |

In some other topics it's proposed to add a 'credited as' feature for the studios. | | | Cor |

The information given there actually further cements my belief that it's the same company credited twice under different name variants. Quoting Staid S Barr: Quote: I'd propose to cut all such names short to Buena Vista Pictures I'd agree with that, yeah. | | | Last edited: by T!M |

Thoughts? I think you are looking at this wrong. The rules say Theatrical release studio not distributor. Walt Disney Pictures is the Release studio, Buena Vista just gets it to it location. |

| Posted: | | | | Studios List the Studios in the following priority.
* Theatrical Release Studio(s) * Production Company(s)
Media Companies The company(ies) responsible for the publishing (creating, assembling and ordering of the DVD/HD/BD content) and/or physical distribution of the media.
Enter in the following order:
* Publisher (Content) - Usually found as a logo on the bottom of the back cover or in the credit block, often containing the words "home video" or "home entertainment. Secondary publishers (eg. The Criterion Collection's Eclipse label) may also be listed. * Licensor (Home Video Rights) - Usually found (dated with the year of the DVD release) on the back of the box or in the credit block with words words regarding "under license from...". * Distributor - Usually found as a logo on the bottom of the back cover or in the credit block with words regarding distribution.
Some companies (using similar but different names) may serve more than one function. List such companies only once, using the name from the logo. List secondary publishers even if the name is similar. If you are unsure of the function performed, do not list the company.
Do not abbreviate Studio or Media Company names. e.g, use Universal Pictures not just Universal; The Criterion Collection rather than Criterion or Criterion Collection; Walt Disney Pictures not just Disney. Exception: If the studio name is too long to fit, use standard abbreviation rules.
Omit company suffixes such as LLC, Ltd., Inc.
Omit any locality-specific suffix. e.g. Enter Paramount Home Entertainment, not Paramount Home Entertainment (UK)
There is further information about correct listings of studios and media companies, and the opportunity to ask questions if unsure, in the Contributions forum. Please NOTE that the section in the rules AND the Program is separated into two DIFFERENT sections, with TWO different functions.
We do NOT deral with Theatrical Distributors, we deal with Theatrical release companies. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

Agreed, of course, "Buena Vista Home Entertainment" is still the distributor of the DVD/Blu-ray, so that one gets listed as a media company no matter what. | | | Last edited: by T!M |

| Posted: | | | | The chain for movie release is as follows:
Production - Production Company(s) | Distribution - Theatrical Release Studio(s) -> Media Company(s) | | Theater - Chaines like: Regal Entertainment Group Home DVD - Stores like: Amazon, Best Buy AMC Entertainment Pathé
I didn't add the rental, television networks and On Demand/Pay-Per-View chains in the diagram. | | | Cor | | | Last edited: by Corne |

| Posted: | | | | Yes? Did anyone claim anything different? I certainly didn't. The only thing is that CharlieM and are claiming that "Buena Vista Pictures Distribution" is not the Theatrical Release Studio (but merely responsible for the physical shipping of the film reels to theaters), so shouldn't be listed as such. |

Absolutely, Tim, vote No. The Theatrical release studio will be Walt disney Pictures, Touchstone Pictures, Hollywood Pictures, et al. Buena Vista Pictures Distribution does not figure into profiler as they are NOT the Theatrical Release studio. BVHE is fine, they are the Distributor of record for Disney Company product related to home Video | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

Buena vista in the context you are referring to is ONLY a Distributor, they are NOT a Theatrical Relese Studio, they are NOT a Studio in any sense of the word. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!!
