Some pictures of the case as well. Looks really cool with a transparent Blu-ray case and a cover that gives off a 3D impression. It will be interesting to see if other releases follow suit with this style.

But honestly.. who will throw away their TV and BD Player and replace 'em with a 3D capable one in the near future?

Hmm I will wait at least until 2011 to do it.. And I am sure that Invelos will be quick to add the new formats

It is possible to take requiring a new receiver out of the equation. Some of the new Panasonic 3D Blu-ray players have two HDMI ports, one 1.4 connection for a 3D TV and one 1.3 connection for those with older receivers. That would knock off a fair amount from the upgrade cost if people were looking to upgrade now.

I've made topic about this at Blu-ray.com. The timing to introduce HD 3D couldn't have been worse. It's too close to the introduction of HD. A lot of people, myself including, have already invested in a new HDTV, receiver (for lossless audio) and BD-player in the past 3 years or so. Now, they expect us to replace all that equipment yet again just to have 3D? That's out of my budget. 3D will have to wait a couple of years before being introduced into our household, I'm afraid.

If you would buy a Panasonic 3D BD Player you could keep at least your receiver, because their players come with 2 HDMI outputs.. (The Samsung 3D 6900 sadly only comes with one.. So if you get that one you would need a new receiver too)

Well I am gonna wait a while.. 3D seems to pop up every couple of years and then it's gone again.. But of course this time it's supported by practically the whole industry

Good suggestion, Stephan! Getting a BD player that has dual HDMI out (with one of them being 1.3 for the sound only) could potentially reduce the cost as I woudn't have to buy a new receiver (my current one isn't even a year old!). I might invest in it then when prices of the TV's goes down and more titles are available.

Speaking of which, Sony is pushing ahead full force with the whole 3D thing. Two more titles have been announced and I'm a bit surprised to see they are titles that didn't have a theatrical 3D run (at least, I think Open Season didn't). It also looks they'll stick with the clear cases, 3D Blu-ray logo and covers that have a pseudo transparent/3D effect (which I actually kinda like).



I haven't bought those two titles on BD yet, so I think I might as well get these editions when they come out

My kid and I saw Open Season in 3-D in the theater.

Really? Then I guess they must be 3-D titles. In the theaters where I live they didn't come out in 3-D, which led me to believe they weren't released as such. My mistake and thanks for correcting!

Toshiba has released what it is calling the word's first 3D tellies that do not require special glasses. More here
