Here's an article Ebert wrote about high-def TV back about twelve years ago.

More like 22 years ago.  Very interesting, I never realized HD was being thought of way back then,  They certainly underestimated how long it was going to take.

I saw demonstrations of HDTV in the early 90s, still on enormous CRT devices. And of course there was nothing to see, despite promises of Olympic broadcasts as early as 1992. Ironically, this was at the same time as Philips was trying to sell CD-i and no one had ever heard of DVD yet...

I am glad to have lived through the whole Home Theater Revolution. From Betamax & Video 2000 to VHS.. Then to Laserdisc.. Then I bought my first Dolby Pro Logic Receiver.. A short time later my first AC-3 Receiver (The first one Yamaha ever produced)... Then I bought my first 16:9 Television.. Then a big-ass rear projection TV and a DVD Player (which cost about $1300)... In the last 10 years I went through about 20-25 DVD Players of the years.. Then my first HD-DVD Player, then a Blu-Ray player.. only after I had those I got a Full HD TV and Finally a DTSHD and True HD Receiver.. It's funny that all happend within 20 years.. No other segment advanced that fast.. (except for pc's and such)
