It would be nice to have the edit buttons for inserting a link, bolding text, ..., like we have it here in the forums, to have in the contribution notes field, too.

With adding in written style all works, but it would be more user-friendly to have the buttons, especially because there is no Preview where we can check if all works like wished.

Edit: Sorry, would have been more correct to put it into the Website discussion, because it's no a feature of the programm itself.

I use bold formatting in notes for some things... so I definitely agree.

There is some merit to this but consider this downside if your notes are voluminous.

Only the first 1,000 characters are visible to people when voting (the full text is visible but you have to know to seek out the full contribution history to see it).  And i'm pretty sure every character of every HTML tag would count against that 1,000 character limit.

For example the four characters of text, plus the tags, would actually take 11 characters: <b>BOLD</b>

And FYI every carriage return takes two characters (not that i'm encouraging people to eliminate tcarriage returns).
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

Simple solution to that... don't use it if you think your notes is too long or close to being to long as they are. Just because you have the options there to use them don't mean that you HAVE to use them.

Good idea.  I usually type my notes here in the forums, so that I can preview them, then cut and paste into the contribution notes.  This would save me a step or two.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.
