| Posted: | | | | Should music releases with singing be listed as music or the language the singing is in? I would think the latter (because it's thin distinction between a concert and a musical), but I do see plenty entered as the former. Is there some standard on this? |

| Posted: | | | | Ummm Ace, I don't see the problem. An album as you describe it would probably be Music Videos, that's not a concert. That would be MUSIC. Phil Collins: Seriously Live OTOH would be a Concert.
Why is it that you look to create problems, when they don't exist. there were Beatles albums that were recorded in german, I am sure there are others, this just isn't all that hard, nor is it an issue. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

That doesn't answer my question. I'm talking about all music releases, whether concert or video collections. If you are arguing for a distinction, please explain why and how. Should the audio be entered as music only or the language of the music? This is a problem because some things are entered one way in the DB and some the other. | | | Last edited: by Ace_of_Sevens |

| Posted: | | | | I think that is self-evident, Ace. Why is Music special. If it's a Movie what would you enter, you ceratinly wouldn't list german for an English Music DVD or would you. Like I said you are creating a completely non-existent issue.
I really don't get your desire to try and make issues where none exist.

Skip I wouldn't list German for an English music DVD, but I might list English or Music only. It clearly isn't self-evident because some titles in the database are done one way and some are done the other way. |

Practically every "Music DVD" I've ever encountered in the database has listed the language spoken in the Concert, or Music Videos if it's a compilation. I've contributed many, many Music DVD's and have never had a problem there. Dialogue is usually spoken during music concerts between (and during) songs, they are rarely all music unless edited out. If there are no words spoken, then "Music Only" would be the obvious choice. "Music Only" is used more often for seperate Score-only audio tracks that are on actual movie releases, and have absolutely no dialogue during them. In that case, they are clearly all music. Katatonia, for example, are a Swedish band, yet they sing all of their songs in English. I already know the fact that a Katatonia DVD is Music. Music is Music. Lyrics are in Language(s). It's pretty clear what a "Music release" is already. | | | Corey |

| Posted: | | | | I still don't see the issue, Ace, I think you are reaching. Treat it just like you would a movie or TV Show. As Kat noted Music Only primarily is an AUDIO FEATURE dealing with a separate score only, some movies actually isolate the Sound Effects, would be the same type of thing. You really confuse me looking for this kind of stuff | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | @Ace: In Audio Tracks I'd list the language they are singing in, and I'd put Music in Genres (as a matter of fact, I have done so countless times, as I have contributed quite a few Music DVDs). Tells me all I need to know.
I use Music Only for score-only tracks, as mentioned by Katatonia, and also for music tracks encoded to accompany silent movies. |

That's the way it's always been done, except for instrumental music. And if there are multiple languages on the same track, I'd use what's encoded on the disc or menu. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Nexus the Sixth |

Wrong, Donnie, I am NOT. He is being obtuse, I believe deliberatelt for his own reasons. Katatonia, for example, are a Swedish band, yet they sing all of their songs in English. Donnie Wrong Donnie, I am not. I am NOT, I believe he is being deliberately obtuse. There is another answer that is less complimentary, which I don't believe. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

Music is Music. Lyrics are in Language(s). It's pretty clear what a "Music release" is already. Green from me for that explanation. I have a DVD that's not in the database that I've been sitting on and this answers it for me, too. Good question, Ace, as I was wondering as well (although it had slipped my mind as of late). | | | Reviewer, HorrorTalk.com
