| Posted: | | | | Hi everyone, I am a brand new user and DVD Profiler is awesome but I would love to see an option for more in-depth reviews. I find the scale of 0-5 in half point increments to be too coarse and would love to see a 0-10 scale in half point increments or possibly a 0-100 scale in full point increments. I would also like to have the option to add my own criteria, not just movie and DVD. I'd love to be able to do something like below but with editable categories. Overall - 0-10, half point increments Writing - 0-10, half point increments Cinematography - 0-10, half point increments Music - 0-10, half point increments Special Features - 0-10, half point increments Packaging - 0-10, half point increments Anyway, just my take. |

... btw... if you go to options you can turn on a couple more review items. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | As Addicted2DVD wrote you have more than just movie and DVD if you choose different in the options. In my opinion these are enough. (As long as I can choose what I want to get displayed, I don't care about more criteria) The 10 Steps for review are enough for me, too. Are you really disdinguishing between movies with 17/20 or 18/20? |

| Posted: | | | | Now that I have the program open I can tell you that there is 3 options with up to 4 items to review... if you go to Tools --> Options --> Display.
The option are... - Deafault (Movie, DVD) - Simple (Movie Only) - Detailed (Movie, Video, Audio, Extras) | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Unless it is something new in the beta (I don't have the beta open at the moment)... no you can't give just a half... The smallest you can use is 1 but there is times I would like to use a half... like for example... if the only extra on the disc is a trailer... I would only give that half a point... as in a 0.5 Edit: Just checked the Beta... and you can't use a 0.5 in the beta either. | | | Pete | | | Last edited: by Addicted2DVD |

| Posted: | | | | Now I understand. Sorry. Thought you mean half point steps. Never noticed that there isn't a half point. (Never used such low review) For me it doesn't a movie with 1 point or just 1/2 point, I would never ever view again. |

| Posted: | | | | I agree... but as I said... you see I use a detailed review. What if the only extra on the whole disc is a single trailer? For that I would personally want to give the Extras a 0.5 review. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Agree, for this it is useful.
Wondering really why there's not a half point. (Would be logical because of the half point steps) |

Edit: Just checked the Beta... and you can't use a 0.5 in the beta either. I'm in 100% agreement with you on this one Pete. I wish I could give 0.5 for a trailer only feature. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |

| Posted: | | | | @Addicted2DVD The option are... - Deafault (Movie, DVD) - Simple (Movie Only) - Detailed (Movie, Video, Audio, Extras) I did notice that there is Simple, Default and Detailed and I know that many people are happy with the system the way it is. I'm not asking to have the existing system thrown out, deleted or removed, I am asking for a possible fourth selection which you might call 'Custom' where you could add your own categories so that if someone looked at your overall rating, they could look at the individual areas and understand how you came to that rating rather than think to themselves that you pulled the number out of the air. For example, in the detailed section, there is movie, video, audio and extras but this could be even more detailed for some people such as myself. There could be many categories that go into a review. Writing, cinematography, film to disc transfer, music, soundstage, dialogue, acting, special features, packaging, or whatever else is important to the reviewer. Heck, you may even want to rate the original language, dubbed language and subtitles individually on some movies.
@VirusPil The 10 Steps for review are enough for me, too. Are you really distinguishing between movies with 17/20 or 18/20?
Well, the review system as I see it is basically a 5 star system where you could give a good movie a 4, 4.5 or 5 stars out of 5 stars for example. Again, I completely understand that most are very happy with that and I don't want to change that but for me I would like the option to be more granular. Let's just look at the high end of the scale for example. To me, 9/10 is a great movie that I would universally recommend to anyone who asks, 9.5/10 is a fantastic movie that I will actively recommend to people because I feel that it needs to be seen and a very rare (for me) rating of 10/10 is an epic movie, a movie like Blade Runner or The Godfather that actually defines a genre, a benchmark that will influence filmakers for years to come. For me, a movie I give an 8/10 to isn't something that I would universally recommend, I would say an 8/10 is something I really enjoyed but I could see other people not liking it and an 8.5/10 might be something I loved but still wouldn't universally recommend it to everyone I knew. So to answer your question, I feel there is a difference between a 17/20 and 18/20 (8.5/10 and 9/10).
Again, not asking to throw out the standard that's been established, I'm hoping to open up the option to expand on it for people with the desire for it.

| Posted: | | | | Custom review catagories, hmm, more freedom for all. All that is optional is not this bad. Thanks for the explanation why you want more steps. I take it with the 5 rating system similar. 5: Epic, ... 4,5: Absolute great movie that has to be recommend 4: Good movie, recommendable 3,5: Is a movie you can watch 3: Look it, but just one time and only if you don't have another possibility all underneath 3: bad movies So very similar to yours. And as you can see. underneath 3 isn't very often used so I've still possibilities to be more distinguishing. Never would know what I would make with 20 step (10 half steps) But of course Ok, you can request what you want in your opinion. | | | Last edited: by VirusPil |
