Right now, I'm at +16, but haven't moved up to a star. Does anyone know what the cut-off is?

You have to write "Thanks.", "Thank you.", "Thank you!", "Thank you very much!", "Thanks !!!", "Thanks, good job.", "Good work, thanks!", "Thanks, great job!", "Good catch!",  and so on to every positive contribution vote.

And, without helpful postings, you'll get several stars in no time.

Recently I began to provide negative feedback to chumming up yes-votes, because they make me aggressive.
But Invelos cautioned me to not continue.

The real question should be how many reds does it take for Skip to be limited?

For those who missed it, the red arrows no longer have any sort of direct limiting effect. Instead, they serve to notify admins of an inappropriate post. Temp bans are handed out on a case-by-case basis by the forum admins.

And to the op, there is no specific number.  Reputations normalize a bit over time, so frequency is a factor.  Also, greens from a variety of users are more valuable than greens from a few users.

Question: Do stars go away over time as well? Meaning, if you don't get any positives for a long time, do you eventually go back to zero stars?

I think I was averaging between 20 & 30 a month for a couple months before I got my first star.  Kept that up and got my 2nd star.  That 3rd star is pretty DAMN hard to get!

Actually they do. I was at 2 stars then left for a while, came back to only one star.

Same. I took about a month off from posting during the summer and one of my stars went away during that time.
