Puppeteers...when to include? |

| Posted: | | | | I am rewriting the cast section of the rules to, hopefully, make it less confusing. Before I change the wording of the puppeteer section, I wanted to see how the community felt on this issue.
Please note, I conducted a similar poll in the Rules forum and it strayed way off the topic. To be clear, this isn't about deciding who is or isn't cast. This is about deciding how, if at all, we want to track puppeteers. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | I went with never include, as I don't see them as that important.
HOWEVER, that's just a personal feeling, and I'm not adverse to them being included (in which case it would be ALWAYS).
Always or never are the only two options I see, to knock out any confusion and/or arguments before they happen (again). | | | Reviewer, HorrorTalk.com

| Posted: | | | | I say always include, however i wouldn't mind it at all if it was decided to never include them. I agree with Alien Redrum though. It has to be always of never, just based on position in the credits seems illocial to me.

I am in the same camp, don't really care one way or the other, but I just don't like 'some of the time'. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Well, I find your poll misleading. What does ALWAYS Include mean? Are we still believing that we can decide that they are CAST wghen they are NOT, which is most of the time. OR are we suggesting that we should enter them appropriately when they are cast they are cast, when they are Crew they are entered as CREW, the latter iof course would require a change in the program by Ken.
If we are proposding that they are always CAST, I still want to understand the basis how that is achieved, since there is a defined CAST section in MOST all films and TV Series and Puppeteers are not generally listed within the Casdt section but as part of the crew

| Posted: | | | | I am with the always include camp, although like others, wouldn't mind if they weren't included at all either. Also agree with others in that it should be always or never, not just sometimes. If we're going to track something, it should always be tracked.
My reasoning for going always rather than never is simply because in some films such as The Labyrinth, puppeteers play a rather big part of the film, and in some instances they are even given role names like seen in the poll. And while I don't have any specific interest in puppeteers, removing might effect those who do, so why not.
I won't comment on where to include them (Cast/Crew) since that's what got the other thread off topic. | | | "The perfect is the enemy of the good." - Voltaire | | | Last edited: by Vittra |

| Posted: | | | | Personally, I don't care for including them but if I had to choose...
I would say include them with cast when specifically a part of the cast credits, crew when not.
If they had to be included in only one, to me they would strike as crew rather than cast unless of course the puppeteers do (and are credited amongst the cast for) the voices. | | | Last edited: by samuelrichardscott |

| Posted: | | | | I'm for including them in cast when they are in the standard cast credit roll.
Can we all please keep on track by answering MadMartians poll only, and not fill this thread with the trash that ruined the last one. | | | |

Skip Since he is re-writing the Rules for Cast, it seems evident that when he is talking about "Always Include Them" he means always include them in the Cast. | | | Hal | | | Last edited: by hal9g |

Skip As there is no way to list them as 'crew', it is off topic. If you would like to talk about a way to list puppeteers as crew, start a new topic. I picked 'only if a role is listed' to keep our database 'pure'. pdf | | | Paul Francis San Juan Capistrano, CA, USA |

| Posted: | | | | One thing I can't understand, is those that vote for never include them.
There are puppeteers credited in the middle of a cast list with associated role name and we are to leave those out? I would appreciate if someone could explain why to me.
I voted for the 'When credited with a specific role', but could also have gone with 'When part of standard credits'.
Always isn't an option for me since that includes people flapping wings etc. To me, those puppeteers are crew and not cast. | | | The colour of her eyes, were the colour of insanity |

Since he is re-writing the Rules for Cast, it seems evident that when he is talking about "Always Include Them" he means always include them in the Cast. What basis do you have to make that statement, Hal? How can you possibly decide they ARE when most of the time they clearly are NOT? Makes no sense. That is why the question is crucial. I have no problem listing them always as long as they are listed appropriately; when Cast then Cast, when Crew then Crew. That is exactly the question is crucial. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!!
