BD on 1 side, DVD on the other. Sweet! This is what I would have preferred to the current single-format-on-a-disc combo packs out there (Monsters, Inc., Night at the Museum 2, etc.) Less discs per package, but you still get both formats. And you still get all the features (U-Control, BD-Live, etc.) on the BD and all the features on DVD as well. DVD Empire has them 25% off ($22.49) right now for pre-order. Hope they do this with more titles.
Thoughts? Discuss. | | | My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT. FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that. Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it! |

I see two cases:
1. They release a movie in two packages: One BD-only, the other BD/DVD hybrid: I don't have a problem with that as I can buy the BD-only one (We only have blu-ray players left in the house and haven't bought a DVD in the past 2 years. We still play our old DVD's but don't buy new ones anymore)
2. They release certain movies as BD/DVD hybrid only: Big issue for me for the following points: - it'll drive up the cost, so same as those BD/DVD bundle packages, I'll most likely pay more for something I'll never use - BD layer on one side, DVD layer on another means there's no more space left for BD art (I also hated that about the old flip 2-layer DVD's)
I can see how this would be perceived as a God-send for people who still use both formats rather equally and I can see how this could help studios increase BD penetration rate faster, but for BD-only collectors like me, it feels more like ball & chain we need to drag with us than and improvement. | | | Blu-ray collection DVD collection My Games My Trophies |

| Posted: | | | | I hope it's only for the US since Universal wisely never tried to introduce flippers on HD DVD in Europe. The few HD DVD combos I have are all American imports and I don't like them at all. And you can't even give/throw away the redundant DVD... | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Nexus the Sixth |

| Posted: | | | | Personally, I don't like any format that uses dual sided discs. As Taro mentioned, no more room for artwork. And although I'm very prudent with my discs, it's so easy to get fingerprints on the surface, which you may not notice right away, and this can affect playback later on. If they are really need to make combo's, please make the dual discs. | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm

| Posted: | | | | On top of that! Doesn't it require a program change as you can't tick BR and DVD for one profile?

| Posted: | | | | All dual sided DVD BD combo discs violate the standard for DVD resp. BD in one aspect or another. Specially it is not possible that the thickness of all layers and the disc are conforming to the standards at the same time.
At least that's what I have been told, when the industry has been argueing why HD-DVD-combos are possible while BD-DVD-combos are not. |
