Test the following: Open a text editor like Notepad. Scan a barcode. If the numbers appear in Notepad you can use it with DVD Profiler.

One thing you have to be careful about though.

If the scanner automatically adds a newline to the end of the numbers, you should try to find drivers that disables this. If you enter a barcode that exists in different localities, DVD Profiler will present a list of localities that you can choose from. If the barcode reader automatically adds a newline, you will always pick the first locality, which probably isn't what you want most of the time.
