| Posted: | | | | Lon Chaney is 'in the lead' with 114 titles (221 profiles) Lon Chaney Jr. is 102 titles (184 profiles) but then Lon Chaney, Jr. is 29 profiles (41 profiles)
So, since we now have a filter so all Jr.s are to be of the format: XXX Jr. will convert to XXX, Jr. so I would assume we add the last two together and that then is the agreed common name?
If not I assume we need BYs to separate Jr. and Sr. in this case?
(Note, some of the Lon Chaney's could be Lon Chaney, Sr. too in this case so I'm not sure it even deserves the 114/221 it has.)
Vote and or comment - (I deliberately didn't include Lon Chaney Jr. as an option as these would be changed by filter anyway!) | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

| Posted: | | | | A lot of the Lon Chaney's are Lon Chaney Sr. Junior was born Creighton Chaney, and to my knowledge never used the Lon Chaney Jr. name while his father was alive. Since there was no Jr., there was no need for Sr. to use Sr. during his lifetime.
Lon Sr. died in 1930, and Lon Jr. was not credited at all in any movies before Lon Sr.'s death (IMDB includes an uncredited shot of his hands only in The Trap (1922) but 1931 is otherwise his first credit), so it's pretty easy to distinguish which one is which.
Note that in some early appearances he's credited as Creighton Chaney, so that needs to be in the mix too.
Looks like about 53 of these profiles are for Lon Sr.
But I would agree, if the CLT shows Jr.'s common name should be just "Lon Chaney" then we will absolutely have to go birth year for them. | | | "This movie has warped my fragile little mind." | | | Last edited: by gardibolt |

| Posted: | | | | Thanks to all; that seems a pretty unanimous (wow!) vote for Lon Chaney, Jr. so I'll start the changes! | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

What proof is there that Jr. is credited more often with as Lon Chaney, Jr. versus Lon Chaney?
Polls are not proof. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

Polls are not proof. Doesn't matter. With the "new" auto-filtering from Invelos Jr. automatically turns to , Jr., so the common name by CLT is Lon Chaney, Jr. | | | Berak

I think i mis-read the first post as a desire to link Chaney and Chaney, Jr. based on the poll results. I probably shouldn't post until i've had some Mt. Dew in the morning. | | | Bad movie? Because, as per my first post, if you add Lon Chaney Jr. and Lon Chaney, Jr. (which will both become Lon Chaney, Jr. by filter) the CLT gives: Lon Chaney has 114 titles (221 profiles) Lon Chaney Jr. and, Jr has 131 titles (225 profiles) PLUS some of the Lon Chaney will be Lon Chaney, Sr. so that makes an even bigger gap. What I meant by changes are changing where Lon Chaney, Jr. is in a profile as Lon Chaney to "Lon Chaney, Jr. credited as Lon Chaney". | Posted: | | | | "Lon Chaney" is credited in the following 120 titles (237 profiles): Having only a quick count about 10 Titles are for Lon Chaney Sr. (Pre 1930 profiles)
"Lon Chaney, Jr." is credited in the following 31 titles (45 profiles): "Lon Chaney Jr." is credited in the following 96 titles (183 profiles): = 127/228 some of the credits under "Jr" are wrong
Are we still using "Jr." as the common name or is a birth year needed | | | Last edited: by ninehours |

| Posted: | | | | I did some math for a recent contribution of mine: Quote: Lon Chaney - 235 profiles, but all credits for films produced before 1930 are for Lon Chaney Senior (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lon_Chaney,_Sr.), that leaves 175 profiles for Lon Chaney Junior (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lon_Chaney,_Jr.) credited as Lon Chaney Lon Chaney Jr. - 183 profiles & Lon Chaney, Jr. - 45 profiles, together 228 profiles So it is 175 profiles for Lon Chaney, Jr. credited as Lon Chaney and 228 profiles for the Jr. (the sum of ,Jr. and Jr.), so even with CLT it is Lon Chaney, Jr. | | | Cor | | | Last edited: by Corne |

| Posted: | | | | Personally, I don't care how you guys decide to do this as I've settled on using the Jr. locally. That being said, if folks would actually do a proper investigation of his credits, they are likely to discover that his most common credit is simply Lon Chaney. Frankly, most of the profiles in the online are just flat wrong due to some pretty obvious IMDb raking years ago. Some of us have endeavored to clean up the mess, but the rapant copying and pasting across regions is too big a job for a handful of people to fix.
Now, while I happen to have a very strong feeling that his common name is Lon Chaney based on over 20 unique movies in my collection alone, my personal opinion is that when I can obviously seperate two names with a jr./sr., I should do so and avoid the BY at all costs. That's just my own thing and the reason I went the way I did locally. | | | Last edited: by mdnitoil |
