In the film Before Sunset UPC 085393-896225 I have added composer credits for both Julie Delpy and Glover Gill. The end credits reads "Performed by" and "Composed by" @1:19:31 for both of them. Should they receive Composer credits for this DVD?

I have received no votes which I would like clarification on. It states "1) What proof Gill's "Accordion Music" is Original?  2) Delpy's credits are for Songs amongst non-original Songs-her credit should be Songwriter"

I have reread the rules and do not see where 1 and 2 are applicable. I trust the no voters opinion and think I must be missing something somewhere. So I would like to know what others would do in this situation. Thank you.

These are tricky because often the same credits are used for what we would credit as Composer or Song Writer.

Is there a composer credited in the beginning credits?

My take on it would be that Delpy's credit is a song writer credit, based on the context that she's credited with other song writers, so I agree with #2.

I think Gill should not be credited if he did not write the score. If he wrote Accordion Music, this sounds like "additional music" which we don't include. So my concern with him is not whether it's original or not (as in #1), but rather that it doesn't seem like it's the original score credit.

No. That is one of the reasons I thought the composer credits were applicable. I hate "tricky"!

Kathy,

They should be entered and credited "as they are in the credits".  Do not try to read too much into it.  Just enter them as the film credits list them.

You can't always do that for a composer credit as, sometimes, they will list the composer of a single piece of music, which can't be entered per the crew chart.  Based on the information give here, that seems to be the case.

The rules say "songs by" are not allowed.  There is nothing about composers.  I still feel this is a valid entry and they should both receive composer credits.  IMHO.

I've found a CD by Julie Delpy on Amazon that contains all of the songs for which she's credited in the film. Her album was released in August 2003 and the movie came out in February 2004.

FWIW, here are screencaps of the relevant credits:

The rules also say, for the composer credit, "Used for the composer of the film's Original Score."  A single song used in a film can't, by any stretch of the imagination, be the film's original score.

They might get a song writer credit, but composer is not allowed.

The dates being so close together James, leave me to wonder if the Song was indeed intended for the film. Hmmm

You sing three songs in this movie. Did you write them specifically for this film?

No, it was part of an album that came out in Europe and hopefully will come out here. I’m in discussion. It’s called “Julie Delpy.” I didn’t want to call it that but the label wanted my name on it. They thought it was easier to promote that way.

Don't you just wish that links like this could be found for everything? Great find and end of discussion!
