| Posted: | | | | I know this had to be discussed before, but search kept timing out, so here goes
If on screen credits are like
Street Gang <---divider actor 1 actor 2 actor 3 ...
then the DVDP credits should be like
actor 1 as street gang actor 2 as street gang actor 3 ...
or
Street Gang <---divider Actor 1 as Street Gang Actor 2 as Street Gang Actor 3 ...
If the credits are like
Street Gang <---divider Actor 1 as Tom Actor 2 as Dave Actor 3...
Then we use the groupings as represented and list the actors with there individual credits.
Am I correct in this?
Is there a rule for this, or was it a general consensus due to the limitations of the software? |

| Posted: | | | | I tried to search for information of this also and did so without any success. I recently ran into this while updating my collection. Be Cool UPC: 027616-928412. The last of the credits lists a bunch of musical groups. Each band has the title of their group and then lists the members. There is a gap between each of musical groups in the end credits so I used dividers to organize them. I did not find any rules regarding dividers and so I submitted this contribution. Is this just a personal preference or are their specific guidelines that must be followed? Or do we submit profiles and let the screeners decide? This is especially important for new members. Or old ones like me that get easily confused! | | | Last edited: by Kathy |

Quoting CharlieM: Quote: Is there a rule for this, or was it a general consensus due to the limitations of the software? There's no specific rule. The reasons for including the role name with each individual actor when no role name is present except for the divider is (1) you can add a role name to anyone that doesn't have a credited role name per the rules and (2) a consensus that having a role name is preferable so that when navigating through your collection by actor, the role names will appear. | | | ...James

If on screen credits are like
Street Gang <---divider actor 1 actor 2 actor 3 ... This is a group role, not a cast divider. Dividers should not be used for this example. Quote: then the DVDP credits should be like
actor 1 as street gang actor 2 as street gang actor 3 ... Yes, this and only this. There is no reason to have a divider that matches the role as it wasn't used to separate the cast, merely to indicate that a group of people shared the same role. Quote: If the credits are like
Street Gang <---divider Actor 1 as Tom Actor 2 as Dave Actor 3...
Then we use the groupings as represented and list the actors with there individual credits. This is the 'text-book' example of a cast divider. The heading is meant to separate one group of actors from the others. JMHO | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Something really needs to be put down as a hard rule.
To me dividers are for the following:
TV episode 1 (or movie 1) cast cast ... TV Episode 2 (or Movie 2) cast cast ...
They do not really work out well for grouping credits, since they do not transfer down to the credits themselves.
entered
Street Gang
cast cast cast
does not tranaslate in the program to
cast - street gang cast - street gang
but does tranlate to
cast cast
also
Street Gang
cast as bob cast as mike
does not translate to
cast as (street gang) bob cast as (street gang) mike.
Now for appearances, it may look nice when viewing the credits of the movie directly, but not if you are trying to cross reference actor to role quickly and easily. This is and should be a capable of and DB program.
What may not be a bad rule would be something like
Screen credit
Street Gang
cast cast ...
to DVDP entry
cast as (Street Gang) cast as (Street Gang)
and the extension of it
Screen credit
Street Gang cast as bob cast as mike
to DVDP entry
Cast as (Street Gang) bob Cast as (Street Gang) mike.
Or something to this effect. At least until a programmed option takes effect for this. |
