| Posted: | | | | I don't know if others using DVDP like to peruse various topics, but I do and some of them make interesting reading.
Today, while looking through some posts discussing credits/overviews/covers, etc., what sprang to mind was the following: what would take precedence, as far as DVDP is concerned, if a DVD was released simultanously in, say, the UK and the USA, and there were different spellings/slightly different overviews on a particular release?

| Posted: | | | | An interesting question. But the answer appears obvious to me. You mention US and UK both of which are totally different regions/localities. As such it is entirely possible that each different Region and/or Locality could have completely different relase dates. Why do think a UK release should take precedence over a UK release or vice versa. Now if you live in the UK and are buying Region 1 US titles, then obviously the data needs to apply to Region 1 US NOT UK, again or vice versa. If Region 2 UK hsa a different release date than Region 2 France, then each would have it's own profile to reflect the data that is relevant to the particular recion/Locality. Why should ONE take preference over any other, that I presume is one of many reasons that the film companies created Regions/Localities. Same applies to spellings or anything else, it all revolves around Region/locality

| Posted: | | | | What I was thinking was, for instance, if I purchased a new release DVD and I was the first to contribute the profile to DVDP in UK English, with UK spellings, e.g colour as opposed to color, and a member from the US was to contribute a similar profile, with the American spellings, who would be correct?

| Posted: | | | | You contribute what is on the cover. If the cover says colour you type colour, if it says color you type color. This is 100% irrelevant to which locality the DVD is for. We copy the data exactly as written. However as Skip said, it's a moot point anyway as the UK will have it's own DVD in the database as will the US, as will France & every other country that's covered by a locality. |

| Posted: | | | | Again, read the Rules, hwta spellings are you wanting to use. The Rules are very specific. For example, Overview comes from the back cover. If the titlle use Color and you want to use Colour then you are Wrong, the Cast and Crew Credits come from the film, you do not have the freedom to impose your preferred spelling if it differs from the ACTUAL data. Your preferences are ALWAYS Local ONLY. Deal only with the real data for Contribution. I know it may not be popular over there but Brittania no longer Rules. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! | Posted: | | | | I gather Dave, that you have not read the rules yet. So let me give you one piece of them "Overviews Copy the overview from the back of the DVD case exactly as written, including capitalization of words exactly as shown on the back of the case. Separate all paragraphs with a blank line. Use the Bold and/or Italic features for any words in the overview that are bold and/or italic as needed to match the case. Exceptions: If the entire overview uses an uppercase or lowercase font, enter the overview using standard capitalization rules for the locality of the DVD. Do not bold or italicize individual letters (as in the case of dropped capitals beginning a paragraph)." Now what does that say to you, Dave. If you buy a Region 2 French title, thus it has a French Overview, are you entitled to Contribute an English translation of the Overview...answer NO you are not. You can maintain an English translation locally for your purposes, but you are not entitled to bend the title to your will for Contribution. All you have to do is read and then follow the rules. | Posted: | | | | I have thought of an exception for the Overviews. If there isn't one on the back cover, then one can be written. In that case, I would say to use the spellings of whichever locality you're entering for. The actual ruling there says - Quote: When there is no overview on the case, add a simple, self-written overview of 1-2 paragraphs. Do not include spoilers and always match the overview language to the profile's locality. Although both may be English, I would use US English for a R1 profile & UK English for R2. |

| Posted: | | | | Forget: I would call that obvious...I hope. I certainly would not be entering a self-written English Overview to a Region 2 French profile, even though I am English (American). Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | Skip, I believe that I do understand the rules, but in cases where I do not, or I am not too sure, I will submit a post, asking for clarification, which is why I started this post in the first place. I did submit an earlier post asking for clarification regarding overviews, which was succinctly answered to my satisfaction. Thanks, dee1959jay, I have read about what you have suggested, and have made note of it. I will only submit contributions that I believe will add/enhance/correct the database. If I make a dog's ear out of anything, I will expect to be told politely. After all, I am only human, and we all make mistakes. Dave |

| Posted: | | | | Didn't that horrid (IMO) movie "Bubble" come out on dvd and in theaters on the same day? I know there was something funny/weird about how that was distributed/released. I also recall my ex-roommate begging me to find her a copy, which I did and unfortunatly for me decided to watch before giving it to her. Guess this has nothing to do with the thread, but enjoy anyway. |

Guess this has nothing to do with the thread, but enjoy anyway. Yes, it was VOD, DVD and Theaters on the same day. It was supposed to continue, but they seemed to drop the idea and stick with only VOD and Theaters. |
