In the main collection list would be good to see at a glance which are loaned out and which are overdue. Maybe the front cover could have a banner over them to indicate they are loaned out and the colour could indicate if they overdue.
So far can only see this type of info by clicking on each one, not very good for a large collection. |

| Posted: | | | | Mithi. I think it is great that we can use filters for this. However that isn't what this person is asking. They are making a feature request. All to often all of us me included automatically offer a work arounf to a feature instead of discussing the feature. We already discussed this feature in the past and it was shot down, because many felt it commercialized the software and it was no longer set for the collector's front but the storefront. I would still like to see this feature maybe in the welcome window a pop-up that shows the DVD you have loaned and the fact that it has been out since March, which by the way just happened to me. But back to my soapbox for a moment. I think all of us really need to stop and look at a request incstead of just automatically saying her is the work around, now go away kid you bother me. Finally, since I know it will come up I am not picking on Mithi in anyway. I am extremely grateful for the shared knowledge, I just think we should start looking at requests instead of just offering workarounds. |

| Posted: | | | | Well, all to often it is obvious that the persons asking for a feature haven't learned all the tricks in Profiler that may be alternatives to what he/she is asking for. I don't think offering work-arounds is a bad thing. I'm sure Ken will look at the request and give it proper consideration even if a work-around is suggested. And even if the work-around isn't what the OP was looking for, someone else may benefit from it. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

| Posted: | | | | I know this is another work around. and not saying for or against request (I don't loan my movies so don't care either way) But you can also add Loaned To and Loaned Date to the columns in your main list... Just Right Click one of the titles in your list and go to View Columns. This way you don't have to filter or run a report. The info will always be there at a glance right in your movie list. | | | Pete |

As I said before it is really great that someone always puts up a work-around. It however, doesn't make the request any less valid. In making this post I see there are already 2 "work-arounds" given as solutions to the original request. Again, I appreciate the new knowledge, it does NOT address the request. |

I agree that a work-around doesn't address the request. But you seem to think that offering a work-around somehow diminishes the request.
The request has been made. I'm sure Ken will give it the consideration that it merits. What's wrong with offering a work-around that can be of some use in the meantime?
Offering a work-around is not a way of saying that the request has no merit. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

Offering a work-around is not a way of saying that the request has no merit. If you read my other posts you have seen that I said I was grateful for the workarounds. I do, however, believe that automatically offering a work-around does diminish a request. I used to be in programming, beta testing, and QA. I know many times when I took things back to programmers that had workarounds I was simply asked, "why can't they just use the workaround?" While workarounds are excellent short term solutions, I still believe we should be discussing feature requests, instead of just posting the sort answer. |

That's certainly not my intent, and like GSyren I don't think that a workaround does anything to the request itself. And yes, if I see two subsequent feature requests of a newbie to DVD Profiler, I assume that he in all likelihood doesn't know the full functionality of the program. So he might benefit from the workarounds, if not for this problem maybe for others still to come. Quote: I still believe we should be discussing feature requests, instead of just posting the sort answer. If there is something to discuss, of course, but there isn't for me. If I needed such a functionality I would use the HTML-Window described by SH84 in this posting. That wouldn't work on the main list, but I still don't see how you could work with the main list and NOT using filters. cya, Mithi | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |

This is exactly why we should be offering alternate ways of doing what the OP wants. If there are enough ways to accomplish the task, there may not be a need to create a new feature in the program. Ken's time is finite and I would prefer he spend it on things that 'workarounds' can't address. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
