If you choose theatrical, there is an annoying pause just before every death. I figured out this was due to the Choose version which would present an option as to which way you wanted to go (dead or stay alive). But it affects the Theatrical version! Very annoying.
Is there any way around this? I have found many posts detailing the same issue and it seems to affect some brands of players more than others. I have a Samsung dvd 1080p8. Are there any options I can turn off for smooth playback? |

| Posted: July 28, 2009 6:42 AM | | | | I assume it's the standard affect of seamless branching... for some players it is actually seamless, others register a pause as they decide on the correct stream. I think it's why some companies shy away from seamless branching altogether because despite it being a reasonably common feature it's actually not (AIUI) in the DVD Standard therefore it can be implemented various different ways and certain players just do 'get on' with some of those ways. Not something you can fix, except to buy a player that handles all seamless methods well, which is not much of a help, sorry! | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

It played thru smoothly when I selected the theatrical version, but when I selected the choose-your-own version, the player would freeze at every choice screen. It took some doing, but I was moderately successful in getting the various options to play by using the FF button when selecting a choice. Still, very annoying! | | | My phpDVDprofiler collection |

Googling that term and Samsung is unfortunately, quite depressing. It seems that Toshiba and Samsung players are most affected by playback issues involved with seamless branching, whereas Sony handles it smoothly.
I just posted on the CNET Samsung forum where Samsung technies seem to be pretty active. We'll see what they say.....
Thanks, R. |

That being said, this is the only title I can think of that's given any type of playback issues at all. Maybe I just had a bad disc (it was from Netflix)? I've been meaning to pick up the Thrillogy box set for a while now, but with FD4 coming out soon, I'll hold out for the new box set that will inevitably come out whenever FD4 hits DVD. | | | My phpDVDprofiler collection |

| Posted: July 30, 2009 5:19 PM | | | | wondering if this 'seamless branching' is slightly defective dvd authoring, as I don't have this disc, I'm thinking my 'Apocalypse Now - The Complete Dossier' has seamless branching between the 153 min and the 204 min version which drops back and forth using seamless branching of these two titles. (you'd think the disc had one movie one side and the other the other side, but there are all one.. anyway I never had a problem with it hanging or sticking on the layering change .. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird.
