| Posted: | | | | While I understand the reason for not allowing uncredited crew in the database because I suppose they can't be visually identified, it does seem odd that because of this rule we can't credit those that won major awards such as Academy Awards, Golden Globes or Emmy's simply because they aren't credited. For instance I just updated the profile for the movie Born Free, which right on the front cover clearly states that the film won an Oscar for best song. However there is no actual onscreen credit for those that wrote the Academy Award winning song. I can look up Born Free on the Oscar site at the link below. And get the following result: Born Free Open Road Films, Ltd.-Atlas Films, Ltd. Production; Columbia. [United Kingdom] 1966 (39th) * MUSIC (Original Music Score) -- John Barry * MUSIC (Song) -- "Born Free," Music by John Barry; Lyrics by Don Black I think that if uncredited crew can be documented well enough via official awards sites then it's perhaps time that these award winners be properly documented & credited in this programs online database as well. However, I don't think simply finding uncredited crew on other online databases such as IMDB would be allowed as we are fully aware of the problems associated with that. But when uncredited crew actually won a major award I think that should be proof enough that they actually worked on a certain film/show. What do you think? |

| Posted: | | | | I do track John Barry and Don Black locally, as "song writer (uncredited)", using the "custom" crew feature. I am, of course, fully aware that we don't have an "(uncredited)" tag for crew, but there's nothing stopping us from simply typing it into the the "custom" job title field, which is excluded from contributions anyway. This gives me all the information I need, while it doesn't prevent me from contributing to the online profile. | | | Last edited: by T!M |

Online? No.
It's an arbitrary line being drawn but it has to be drawn somewhere and given what the software can/can't do (no uncredited Crew) the current line is in a pretty good place. Similarly some Effects awards go to multiple people, some aren't allowed in our online per the current rules, some are. So it goes.
And just for fun, what is a "major" award? I only watch or care about the Oscars (thank you DVR for letting skip commercials). Could not care less about the other awards. Others will have different opinions. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! | | | Last edited: by tweeter |

| Posted: | | | | As long as there is no way for them to be marked as uncredited in the online database I feel they should not be allowed online. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Yes I know it can't be contributed at this time. And yes I'm keeping it local.
Perhaps we should add an uncredited checkbox for crew for use in such a situation as this.
Like I said in my op, I understand the rules but I think it's odd that the Academy Awards can award these people but we can't properly credit them in the online database just because they aren't credited.
If they are listed on the official site of an award, such as the Oscars and if we had an uncredited box then not only could we credit them but it would make the online database more accurate as well.
But whatever, just a thought. |

| Posted: | | | | ***removed unnecessary personal comments**** I will say that Ken were to allow this in the future, the ONLY site I would conside valid would be the Awards site itself. No other site would be acceptable.

| Posted: | | | | This probably should have gone in the 'Feature Request' forum. Being posted here I think some people are under the impression that you want to do this right now, regardless of what the rules say. If I am reading you correctly, you just want to know if people would be interested in this being done at all. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | I was thinking about something similar the other night. If for example the commentary track states that "So and so was also involved but chose to remain uncredited" then I think we should be able to contribute them. That's an acceptable source for uncredited Cast (especially where they're voice only & can't visually identify them) so why not Crew as well? |

| Posted: | | | | Looks like it made it to the appropriate forum. I would be happy with an uncredited tick box for crew as well. I haven't bothered to attack this situation locally yet, as I figure it's just a matter of time before there's an official solution. We can argue about sources and qualifications once we actually have the feature. |
