Hi all
this is my first post and very new to the Invelos DVD Profiler software, I have started to upload a few profiles mainly scans of covers and some are being rejected because its not the original version, can someone explain how you download the profile of your disc if its not in the database, what i am trying to say is although the film might be the same, the covers are completely different so surely its better to have the covers available than not at all or a cover thats not identical to your own purchase, my understanding of the database was that you could look up your film and download the exact match, I know there are different versions of the films but surely not that many.

Hi & welcome *wave*

As it currently stands the online database only holds information for original releases. This is presumably due to space as much as anything else. For re-release covers you can only store them locally. Some users have set up their own website where they share the re-release scans for others who want their cover but don't have a scanner. You can find out more here.

First of all: welcome to the Asylum!

The problem as it stands now is that DVD Profiler can only distinguish between different DVD profiles in two ways:
1) based on differences in UPC/EAN
2) based on differences in Disc ID.
These two are the "identifiers" DVD Profiler works with.

If both are the same, only one set of cover scans can be attached to the profile in question. Invelos has chosen to issue the rule that this one set should come from the original release.

Thanks for the replies, my main bugbear i suppose was that although I had the same EAN my covers were different and there was no way of changing them so I scanned new ones,  also some of the covers are not very good quality,  thinking it would be easier to keep a variety of covers online so as to match any users discs i assumed I was helping the database because my improved cover versions are not in the database but a few are getting rejected because they are deemed "not original". At the end of the day all we want is to find the exact match of of our dvd and blu-ray including the covers at the highest quality and I have had a few that dont have matching covers so I wanted to improve things for everyone, there must be others that probably have the same identical discs as me.

Hi...
Welcome to the forum.

what you are saying is very understandable... something a lot of us want. But is a program limitation that none of us can do anything about. That is totally in the hands of Invelos. As of right now at least their way of dealing with it (as well as any info in the profile) is that we use original release information only. And I have seen times where more then the cover art is different. Extras, Video Format... and many other things has been seen like this. So for now all we can do is have it locally and lock that section of the profile. You do know about the locks right? Where you can lock sections of the profile that are different for your version (or you like info different per the rules).

In the case of Cover-arts at least there is a bunch of people adding these to a site for those that has the re-release covers. It is a site that was just started... but they have a few. See it HERE... so there is at least a way to share re-release cover arts. I would suggest sending yours in there.

cheers addicted I've not got into the locks yet just dived in on scanning and uploading, I'll start locking after reading the help file, I'll have a look at the site as I know people are always after good quality scans, its amazing how all the covers are not on one web site yet and as soon as you enquire  about one you need someone wants some cash for it.

They are really good about the cover scans here. Just yesterday I realized my cover for The Exorcist was of a re-release... I put in a request in the thread that Forget_the_Rest linked to... and I had the right cover before the day was over!

Even if we do rumble a bit in this forum... everyone in it is very helpful. If they can help... they do!
