I decided today to re-number my collection, i was only giving Box Set parents a number but not the child profiles but decided today to number any disc that has it's own individual packaging and EAN/UPC code (with some minor acceptions) so now i have some parent profiles with no number but the child profiles numbered.
So my collection has gone from this

To this

Sounds a bit inconsistent to me. For example the british "Friends: The One With All Ten Seasons" has an EAN on the box, on each of the ten season packs and on each of the slim cases.

So this entire box set gets about 30 collection numbers while another complete series box may just get only 1 (in case only the box has an EAN) or n for n seasons?

I decided to make it consistent throughout the collection. Only the last item in the box set chain gets a number. And I think it's desevered since most series disc have a longer runtime than a movie. But series discs are in another numeric range than movies.

I number mine the same way a lot of other DVDP user do (I think)...TV sets only the Parent Profile gets a number, children none. Film sets Parent none, children get numbered.

24: Season x - number (Parent)
24: Season x Disc 1 - no number (Child)
24: Season x Disc 2 - no number (Child)
24: Season x Disc 3 - no number (Child)
24: Season x Disc 4 - no number (Child)

whereas

Die Hard Trilogy - no number (Parent)
Die Hard - number (Child)
Die Hard 2 Die Harder - number (Child)
Die Hard with A Vengence - number (Child)

As of this am standing at 1605 profiles...1278 titles.

I originally set my collection up so any profile with a disc had a collection number but have recently redid everything so any profile I purchased has a collection number but none of the box set contents.

So the Blu-Ray Spider-Man Trilogy has a number for the parent but not for the children - but the older DVD of Spider-Man has a number because it was purchased by itself.

For example, if I were to buy the complete Stargate SG-1 series, the grandpappy profile would have a collection number but the parent profiles for each season and the disc profiles wouldn't have one.

So currently, I have 592 profiles with a collection number (thus 592 purchases) and 381 profiles without a collection number.

This is basically what i have done (maybe didn't explain it properly) with the exception that if the TV box set is just the individual releases stuffed into a Slip case to sell it as a collection then i would number the child's and not the parent

That's exactly how I do it.  A purchased tag is interesting, but I started doing it this way long before tags were available.  So I've purchased around 841 items and have about 1100 profiles representing actual movies / TV sets (I don't download child profiles for TV sets).  With 182 TV profiles, I'd be curious to see how my totals would jump if I started downloading child profiles for TV sets!

Right, many of us do variations on the collection numbering.
TV series and mini series, no child collection numbers, but box sets of movies do.
I also create a master profile sets like James Bond, Dark Shadows, Star Trek, etc.
Also I don't number my Teaching Co. lecture series now that they have add UPCs.
We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own.
