| Posted: | | | | Good day, Sirs,
which of the following fourth lines is a second paragraph and so has to be separated with a blank line:
--1 Bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb. Bbbbb...
bbbbb bbbbb. --
--2 Bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb. Bbbbb...
Bbbbb bbbbb. --
--3 Bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb. Bbbbb... bbbbb bbbbb. --
--4 Bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb. Bbbbb... Bbbbb bbbbb. --
--5 Bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb. Bbbbb bbbbb. Bbbbb bbbbb. --
--6 Bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb. Bbbbb bbbbb. Bbbbb bbbbb. --
--7 Bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb bbbbb. Bbbbb bbbbb... bbbbb bbbbb. --
Is it always a new paragraph if the preceeding line is not used until the end? Has there necessarily to be a gap wider than the normal line spacing? Do paragraphs have to begin with a capital letter?

| Posted: | | | | Lets bring the actual example into the equation - It's the last line that's in question. Currently it's 4 out of 5 votes agree that it's not a new paragraph. If it was started with a capital letter I might agree but as it's lower case, it's just a continuation from "and become true heroes..." so should not be separated. |

| Posted: | | | | The last line in that screen shot is definitely not a new paragraph. The ellipsis is a "pregnant pause" and the sentence is not complete until the exclamation point. | | | Kevin |

| Posted: | | | | I agree that is not a new paragraph, it immediately follows the ellipsis.

Thanks for the visual aid, it makes things much easier...at least in this case. That last line is a single sentence with a "pregnant pause". | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. In German for example, you have a new paragraph, if there is an empty line in-between. Other than in English, where a paragraph begins with a new line and the first word indented.
So I would prefer, if only example 1,2,6 and 7 would mean two paragraphs. I totally agree, dear Sir. I remember it well when the separation of non-existent paragraphs began to sneak into my locality. | | | Don't confuse while the film is playing with when the film is played.
