going through the dvd, adding in the new art roles and amending overview for bold italics as the norm...

and i noticed something that i thought i'd throw out for discussion.

in the credits at the start of the film, there is a credit saying

special effects by
john buechler
mark shostrom
anthony doublin
john naulin

so i check the end credits to find the following in the effects section,

special effects creatures & transformations
designer/supervisor
john buechler

pretorious creature & body prostetics
designer/supervisor
mark shostrom

physical and photographic effects
supervisor
anthony doublin

special effects makeup & creatures
co-ordinator
john naulin

so the first question is this,
do i list them

1) all as visual effects, even though john naulin is listed as co-ordinator
2) the first 3 as visual effects and john naulin as make-up effects
3) only credit the first 3

secondly, i'm leaning towards crediting john buechler & mark shostrom with creature design as well, thoughts?

finally,
checking stuart gordon on the CLT seems to show up a second crew member of that name (a british composer), so has stuart gordon been approved as a birth year member (not noticed his name in the pinned thread) or should i search for some online documentation anyway (found plenty for director, virtually none for the composer)?

I'm no expert on these new credits, but I'll give it a go:

From the looks of it, the "special effects" credits from the start are just a general credit, which is gone into more detail in the end credits. I don't think they are "extra" credits, so I'd ignore them.

All of the credits from the end have an "and" in them, that suggests they could have up to 2 credits, so I've suggested which 2 they could have.

"special effects creatures & transformations" - sounds like a "creature design" credit and maybe a "make-up effects" credit too.

"pretorius creature & body prosthetics" - again a "creature design" credit and maybe "makeup effects"

"physical and photographic effects" - this is the hardest one. The "photographic" bit is fine: "Visual Effects", but not so sure on the "physical" bit. I'd be tempted to leave it and let the "visual effects" credit cover both.

"special effects makeup and creatures co-ordinator" - even though it says co-ordinator, the fact that he's given a "special effects" credit at the start suggests he's just as important as the other three, so I'd go for "makeup effects" and maybe "creature design" as well.

As far as I know Stuart Gordon's birth year (1947) is already in the database. No birth year for the composer was found.

I know but as it says "special effects by" in the opening this is what I would use.

This sounds about right to me as well, esp with the opening credit for Naulin.

Don't forget, or in case you're unaware, John Buechler is John Carl Buechler, which is by far the common name and links him to all the great stuff he's done since this somewhat early film.

You guys are making your reasoning as if functional equivalents were allowed by the rules. Are they? Maybe as direct translations? Invelos, we need a clarification.

Which ones are you seeing issues with? Maybe they aren't worded in the exact order as the rules, but they all mean the same thing (except maybe Naulin), and if we're not going to credit them, why even have the field?
I'd say the word "prostetics" should go into the make-up effects rules, as it's exactly what the effects usually are.

i've already entered him as JCB with his "credited as" name on the profile

certainly the case here, previously i would only credited those with a credit exactly matching the roles listed in the rules.

thanks to all who have replied thus far, i'll decide on the submission once i've finished my next submissions.

As I have said, they are name variants or functional equivalents. Those are not allowed by the rules except for direct translations. Are these role names direct translations of those in the rules? Here I'd like to hear a clarification from Invelos.
