| Posted: | | | | Now according to rules someone credited as 'Key Make-Up' should go under Make-Up Artist, but with a custom role saying 'Key Make-Up'? Cause when contributing it just says Make-Up Artist, is this suppose to happen or did I do something wrong? How does the yellow blocs of 'credited as' in the crew section work? |

| Posted: | | | | If you choose to use custom crew roles, they are unsubmittable to the online and are local only...I think. |

| Posted: | | | | okay, I guess that makes sense since they are filed under a main role such as Make-Up Artist... |

| Posted: | | | | If you wish to submit select Make-up Artist from the list of Art credits and use that. The translation of Key Make-up to Make-up Artist is perfectly valid per the Rules.
If you want the exact credit (Key Make-up) in your database you would have to do a Custom role which wouldn't be submitted (though the underlying Make-up Artist credit would).

Just for the record: if you add one, the custom role name will be ignored while contributing. The actual "make-up artist" credit WILL still be contributed, whether you set a custom role name for it or not. |

I haven't actually been using Custom Roles and made a faulty assumption and apparently mis-quoted what others have been saying. Thanks. | | | Bad movie? | Posted: | | | | alright, thanks guys. Guess I'll have to contribute them as the underlying credit or remove them to not cause confusion when submitting. |

| Posted: | | | | Just an FYI, I thought this custom role info was actually quite useful so I've made a feature request to make in contributable. Fingers crossed! |

| Posted: | | | | Don't hold your breath north. From what Ken said when I requested that it not be overwritten when accepting profile updates, it sounded to me like the custom role description is staying a purely local thing. I don't recall exactly what he said, but the basic point was that it was not possible. I hope Ken decides to go to some form of an open credit system, then these custom descriptions will be contributable.
Just to be clear, using custom role descriptions is great, I have done it with a few profiles, but the downside is accepting any update to the crew will wipe out your custom role descriptions. "Other" crew entries are also deleted when accepting any crew updates. So, in reality, using "Other" or custom role descriptions requires a lot of care if you want to get updated crew credits.
With Goodguy's Profile Comparison Plus plugin you can at least copy your custom crew and re-paste it into an updated profile. I just tried it. The profile had 2 "other" sound (dubbing mixer) and 2 custom sound (sound recordist) credits. I copied custom crew, accepted the online profile and then appended the copy to the crew. Those normal sound credits were duplicated, once as sound and once with my custom sound recordist. The 2 dubbing mixers added correctly. So I simply had to delete the "standard" sound credits to restore the data. If you had custom roles mixed in with a bunch of standard credits, you'd have to correct the order to get everyone back to where they belong since the previously copied custom crew is appended at the end of the catagory. So, if your custom roles are mixed throughout the art section, it might be easier to manually add any updated information rather than accept an update. | | | Kevin |
