Greetings.

I have some questions about scanning and contributing Blu-ray covers.

I've scanned in plenty of DVD covers.  I know that they work best at 500 by 700 or there about.

But what's the ideal for Blu-ray covers?  And how does the blu-ray banner get on there?

This came up because I recently got Get Smart on Blu, and it didn't have the slip cover.  (Fear not, I will NOT try to contribute covers to the db.)  So I want to scan the inside cover for me locally.  (The inside cover has Steve Carell's tie covering Anne Hathaway's face.  What fool thought that up?)

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Well, the Blu-ray banner is automatically put on there by the program (IIRC when you slect an HD case type), so just scan the cover itself.

Correct. If you have HD Keep Case or HD Slim selected & the media type is set to Blu-ray, HDDVD or DVD/HDDVD the banner will automatically be added. If Slip Cover is ticked though the banner is removed as often there is a Blu-ray banner on the slip.

All the Blu-ray covers in my collection are 500 x 'X'.  It looks like they were scanned then resized based on the width.

All cover scans are limited to 500 by 700. If you submit any scans bigger than that they will be down-sized. Most of us scan at a much higher res and then scale to 500 by 700 or smaller (497 by 700 is very common for DVDs) before we contribute.

I could have looked in my collection, that would have been easy.

So, I now have my rules ... regular DVDs get resized to a height of 700, BRs to a width of 500.

And yes, the banner shows up automatically.  It doesn't if slip cover is selected.

And FWIW, here's the back and front:

I still want to know whose bright idea it was to cover up Miss Hathaway.

Thanks everyone.

Keep in mind that your scans will be recompressed at max. 195k per side so if you want maximum quality you should avoid that by staying under 195k. (Although the program does a better job of it nowadays than it used to).
