It isn't just a consensus, it is an invelos rule interpretation as can be seen in Gerri's post here: Quoting Gerri Cole: Quote: As I read the rules, none of the Unit crew should be included. The rules state "For each category, include only those people credited with the roles listed in the "Film Credits to Include" column. If someone is not credited with one of these roles, do not include them in the Crew section."
That seems pretty clear to me. If I am missing something in the discussion, which is probable, let me know.

-Gerri How does that apply to Unit Credits? When a film is shot in multiple locations you will have a Director of Photography for each location, a Sound Crew for each location, etc, etc, etc. Those are people credited with the roles listed in the "Film Credits to Include" column. Since they are credited with these roles, why then are they excluded? | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

| Posted: | | | | Just a quick glance at the rules shows the following.
Do not include Unit Directors or Directors of Special Features
In the Incorrect roles column.
Cinematography - Cinematographers or Directors of Photography = Unit Photographers
I guess you could argue that since Unit (whatevers) aren't listed for many of the other roles that they could be entered.
I am fairly sure I have seen a few makeup artists listed in Unit Crew sections, and it does look like they could be entered. |

That is the only area in the rules where "Unit" is specifically mentioned. And it specifically prohibits the addition of Unit Directors or Directors of Special Features. Nowhere in the rules does it specifically prohibit the additon of other Unit Crew. If that were the case then a simple addendum in the first couple of paragraphs of the Crew section of the rules stating that Unit Crew is not to be added would have sufficed. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

If unit directors and unit cinematographers/directors of photography are specifically not allowed by the rules, then why in the world would anyeone want to list, say, a unit production sound mixer? Either we list them all, or we list none of them. Both the specific exclusions for the more important categories in the rules as well as Gerri's comment make it perfectly clear to me that we're not after unit crew. |

Normally I don't add unit credits, however in Babel (for example) all the make-up artists (and some art directors, costum designer and visual effect) are credited only under the Units Crew. | | | Updated List of Accepted Birth Years |

Untile she, or Ken, counter that statement I will leave unit crew out. Now wait just a second. You bolded none of the Unit crew should be included without taking into consideration the rest of Gerri's statement which was: "The rules state "For each category, include only those people credited with the roles listed in the "Film Credits to Include" column. If someone is not credited with one of these roles, do not include them in the Crew section." That seems pretty clear to me. If I am missing something in the discussion, which is probable, let me know." The rules state quite clearly that only those people credited with the roles listed in the "Film Credits to Include" column should be included. I know of many, many films where the location units have personnel listed with roles listed in the "Film Credits to Include" column yet we are prohibited from entering them. For what reason? Gerri goes on to state "If I am missing something in the discussion, which is probable, let me know."Well, I'm letting her know that her statement is unclear as to why these individuals can't be entered when they clearly fit the bill of "roles listed in the "Film Credits to Include" column". A little clarification would be nice. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

Well, I'm letting her know that her statement is unclear as to why these individuals can't be entered when they clearly fit the bill of "roles listed in the "Film Credits to Include" column". A little clarification would be nice. I let her know that she was missing something, back when the discussion took place. I made the same points that you just did. She did not come back and change her stance. Maybe you will have better luck than I did. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
