Hey folks ,

again on the Steelbook issue.
The contribution from goblin just got approved.

Does it mean we can change all Metalpacks, Tins , and so on from CUSTOM to STEELBOOK now ?

Would be fine with me.

What do you guys think ?

cheers
Donnie

Not necessarily.  Things slip by the screeners all the time.  They look at a lot of changes.

A Metalpack should stay "custom". A "Steelbook" has a much higher product quality and is a special brand name.

So the screeners made a mistake IMHO.

And a Tin is a BOX made of TIN, a Steelbook is like a BOOK made of STEEL.
Most Tins are just a box cointaining a keep case or a digipak, that is something VERY different from a SteelBook.

Well, I especially stated that in my NO vote

I guess we need a rule update here.

It's always possible that it got accepted in error. You could always resubmit it saying that you believe it was done in error or try contacting Gerri or Ken to see what they say.

O good grief, why can't custom or other be perfectly adequate use, I use them here all the time. We have to have EVERYTHING described. I would have voted NO, and i wish Goblins had llistened and used a simple custom case. We do not have to every possible case type described any mother than we need EVERY conceivable language, country or whatever. I just ran into a brand new Keep Case style last night, should we now insist that IT be defined as whatever it is instead of a keeper. A Metalpak is not a Steelbook and that is obvious by comparing the two, they aren't even related.

Well,

I do not want a ping-pong contributing between two users.
We really need an official statement here, otherwise I see a huge mess coming

I'm not sure if it was a mistake or was intended.

My contribution notes made quite clear that this contrib wasn't undisputed
Quoting contribution notes:
Quote:
Corrected Case Type Source: Own DVD
For the "NO"-voters: In analogy to the KeepCase which is a KeepCase no matter if it comes from the trademark holder or not the same must go for the SteelBook.
For further info check this thread.
And explicitly for the one who exclaimed a rule violation: The rules don't even mention a Steelbook as such, neither does the thread that lists the casetypes (which, BTW, is the thread that gets crosslinked in the rules).

Not to forget the "NO"-vote from Donnie, so I hope that this approvement was made with a reason.

@ Skip: I'm not quite sure if I get what you're writing. The case I contributed is quite similar to the trademarked "Steelbook", the only difference that is to be seen without tearing it apart is the different spine, and if you look really closely and have a real Steelbook at hand you'd realize that the corners of this Metalpack are a bit more rounded.

I wouldn't have contributed anything as a Steelbook that wouldn't fit in the description (except for the trademark).

For me the question was: Is a Steelbook only a Steelbook if it comes from the beholder of the trademark, or can it be any (for want of a better word) KeepCase made out of metal, as long as it provides the functionality of a Steelbook?
EDIT: This excludes: Metalboxes that contain DVD-cases; Metal SlipCases, etc... I think nobody wants to name these Steelbook.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

The problem I have is that you asked a question, in the form of a poll, then didn't seem to consider the results.  Of the 77 people that responded, 40 said any metal can be a steelbook, 32 said only a Steelbook can be a steelbook and 5 voted something else.  I would hardly call that a clear concensus.

Whether we like it or not, Steelbook is a brand of cases.  Until Ken tells us that steelbook doesn't mean Steelbook, we shouldn't be including any other kind of case.  JMHO.

Not quite correct:
1. It wasn't me who started this poll, it was HilbertHimmelwärts.
2. When I made my decision to contribute a Metalpack as a Steelbook the poll result was 34 to 12 in favour of this possibility. I admit that the result has moved a bit and I wouldn't call a 40 to 32 vote a consensus.

Just to make sure we all know what we're talking about I've taken some pictures of the case in question.

That is NOT a Steelbook. Until and unless Ken changes the meaning of Steelbook to include any similar metal case or adds Metalcase as a seperate case type, the case type for this release can be nothing other than Custom.

My mistake...and one I shouldn't have made.  I mean, the name's right there on the post.

I just PMed Ken to revalidate my contribution and asked him to give the reasons for a decline or an approval in this thread.
Hopefully this will clear things up a bit.

I also think we shall wait for Ken to decide this, otherwise we would have ping-pong contribution madness.

cheers
