I contributed a dvd last sunday (a new one), and today i see that someone is contributing again.
The problem is that the contribution is a completely different film, but the cover scan is clear : it's the same UPC.

http://invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=342243

I remember that some said that in such a case, it's the first release that's taking the UPC and the others have to use the disc id.

In this case, how to know which one is first ?
In my collection, I already have "La forêt enchantée" with another upc : 3-700173-209183
This one is 3-700173-209749 so I think it's newer. I would say that this version of "La forêt enchantée" has an UPC error and that my first contribution of "Les René" is the good one.

Do you think I can vote "No" and be correct ?

As you have already stated:- First come, first served.

The new contribution has to go by Dsic ID, unless that is the new contribution was actually RELEASED before yours (your contribution using the same UPC as a previously released).

I agree with you, except I can't know for sure the release date of either my own dvd or the other.
The editor is strongly linked to a dvd website shop, and usualy, it doesn't communicate on his releases (except on the shop website), so it's very hard to find "real" informations on it.

Doesn't make any difference who the other contributor is. It would be a bit hard for somebody to say a dvd was released in year x, if it turns out the film wasn't made until year y...or the official release date was months after what is being claimed.

Documentation is your friend

It depends on which DVD was released first. Try searching the NET for e-tailers, the Official Distributors website  etc for release dates.

If it turns out they were both released same day, same year...then its first come, first served, else it should be first released.

If their scan is detailed enough, look very closely through the copyright details.  Often the oldest year on there is indicative of release (a bit like finding the age of books).  Compare across the two.

Otherwise, you might need to get into communication (private message) with this user and try to figure something out.

I'm not sure to understand why you say this.
My reference to "editor" was not the other contributor, but the dvd company distributor.

That's the difficult part. As I said, there is no distributor website, and as the distributor uses almost exclusively only one website to selll dvd's, it does'nt need to share dvd informations to others.
Moreover, this distributor is the king of re-re-re-release. Finding one release date is very difficult, but finding all is a job for the impossible mission force

There is no year information in either dvd.

Then it's first come, first served.

Vote NO and state this for being the reason. Try PMing the contributor telling him he is overwriting an already approved Profile and ask him to withdraw and resubmit under Disc ID...if no luck then you will have to go the Ken or Gerri to get this resolved.

Can't think of any other thing to suggest trying.

I'd say: first of all check whether both releases are for the same Locality. The http://dvdpascher.net/ website you used for your original contribution seems to offer French-language releases from various localities/countries (France, Belgium etc.) - that's why I ask.

The rating system used on the DVD cover should tell you for which locality the release is intended.

Same-UPC releases can co-exist if they are for different localities.

If it turns out both releases belong to the same locality, then all you can do is follow snarbo's advice and ask the contributor to resubmit by Disc ID.
