No proof that Bob Renga and Robert Renga are the same person

I have reviewed all the links in the contribution for Independence Day, and the reason I voted no is because of the following:

https://movies.msn.com/celebrities/celebrity-filmography/robert-renga/?sortBy=3&startingItem=1
Does not list Independence Day in Robert Renga's credits

http://movies.nytimes.com/person/307951/Robert-Renga

Credit information is taken directly from IMDB, a highly suspect source

Not a trustworthy source

I am not trying to be a jerk, but there should be concrete evidence that the two are the same person, and not Father and Son or Uncle and Nephew, or even two completely unrelated people that happen to work in the same field in the same industry with the same name (alright, that one's a stretch  )

Seriously, though.  Just because there are links posted in the notes doesn't mean we should validate the information in those links.

I've not got the release of Independence Day in question so haven't seen the contribution notes but going by your comments I would agree with you. Several times recently I've seen people linking two people together with nothing more than CLT figures which is just plain wrong. Yes it's possible that they are the same but if not, it's a complete pain to separate them later if it gets approved. Without sources to back these up they should be declined all the time in my opinion.

I haven't looked into the rest, but I just have to point out that this is ridiculous. IMDb is just as trustworthy, or just as un-trustworthy for that matter, as all the other ones. They're all just as valid as the next one - the key is that you need more than ONE source to back up your claims. But neither the rules nor the screeners favor or prohibit referring to any specific third party source.

And I would agree with that.  When I look at the links that contributors provide, if there are multiple sources that appear to independently come to the same conclusion that the two names were in fact the same person, then I would vote yes.  But when IMDB is the only source out of five (and one of the sources was just republishing IMDB data byte for byte), that tie the two names together, it makes me doubt.

Personally, I think it's very likely that they are the same person, and I've been independently trying to find additional information to support the submitter's claim, but I just can't find it.

I agree they are very likely the same person considering sound crew seem to come up with all kinds of name variants.  But, can't find any source to back up that they are the same person.  Even Variety lists the different credits for Bob and Robert.

How's this one: http://ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/individual/574946 ?

I've found the BFI to be pretty reliable so far - and they indeed list 'Independence Day' among his credits. With BFI and IMDb we have two independent third party sources confirming both name variants refer to the same person. I think that's enough for me.

I will say what I have said a number of times. Simple reliance on the CLT because two names are similar is NOT good enough, it invites disaster. If you are unwilling to do the work to document that NameA=NameB, without making an ASSumption, then you can be guaranteed that this user will vote NO and i would hope that such unsupported data would NOT be apprioved as assumptions get us nowhere.

I find this to be highly suspect as they claim he was credited as 'RENGA, Bob' which, quite frankly, isn't true.  He was, in fact, credited as 'Bob Renga'...

Yes, people, that was a joke.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.
