I really appreciate the possibility to dowload childprofiles that people have contributed, and feel that it is time to contribute some of what I have. But after reading the contribution-rules I feel just stupid.

Most of it is clear, but then I get to; "For the main Box-set profile, add the individual profiles via "Box set" button. The following Clarifications to the standard Rules need to be used:..."

And my stupid question is; thewhatnow?

I have created child-profiles/box-content in my own collection previously by dowloading the box content and the box-profile seperatly and then connect the child-profiles to the box-profile via the "box-content"-tab in the box-profile. Is that the right way to do it when you want to contribute a box? If so, I must say it is poorly described in the rules, at least consiering how detailed the first part of the explenation is.

Also, accoding to TV-Series-rule these should not be contributed as box-sets unles the box span several series. I have recently downloaded TV-series as box-sets with child-profiles (for instance Alias Complete First Series) and I like this, but I am unsure wether to continue this excellent work or if it's not accorting to rules.

Question 1... Yes that is how it is done for contributing boxsets as well...

Question #2... see Disc Level Profiling section in TV Series... it is allowed but don't have to do it. That notation you quoted is telling us that when it spans seasons/series then we must... not a choice.

That is the basics of it at least.

don't have the program on this computer but that sounds like the right way to add box sets.

as far as TV series. The accepted way is both. Some people like a single profile and others like the disc level profiles (some even like episode level but those need to be done manually and thus can't be contributed). Anyway, as far as contributing these, the disc level profiles can be contributed. The box profile should also include all the details and a full cast list of the series. This is different than box sets for movies where the box profile is pretty empty. This is done so that both parties (those that want just one profile and those that want the child profiles) can get what they want.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will try contributing child-profiles to TV-series that I have as soon as I get a scanner that is not ancient.

I personally would be happy with an ancient scanner since I don't have one at all!

Wait....so if we do child profiles for a TV season we are not supposed to contribute the parent as being a box set?  Then how do the child profiles get attached to the season?  Or am I missing something here?

In all honesty, I never bothered with adding boxsets myself as i'm unsure of the process too. Is there a clear and defined step-by-step process for doing this?

For TV Series you do put the boxset content into the parent profile... but you also leave all the information in both the parent and child profiles. That way those that don't want child profiles for TV Series can still have all the information.

As addicted said, the TV show season profiles are a chimera. They act both as individual profile and as box set profile.

A usual box set profile contains no cast, no crew, no discIds, just some basic information and the box set contents.

A TV show season profile contains all the above and the box set contents.

So both parties can have their way, thos who profile only down to season and those who profile down to disc. Each party has just to delete some information locally.

It's basically very simple.

You add the parent profile to your list. Then you add the children to your list, too (either by UPC or by DiscId). Then you edit the parent, you go to "Box Set Contents" and there you add the children.

As for contribution the rules for the child profiles are the sames as for any other movie and the rules for the box set can be found here.

Edit: This morning I suck at spelling, I had to edit every posting I've written so far....
