I was going to contribute the Studios for "Go Fish" (1994)
UPC: 027616864413 (US)
Disc ID: 201AA3C41658CEBF [GO_FISH]

Now the profile has in the Studios field:
Samuel Goldwyn Company
MGM Home Entertainment

Present Contribution Notes say "Studios: updated from credit block"

Of course, MGM Home Entertainment has to be moved to Media Companies.

The problem is with The Samuel Goldwyn Company...

Here are the studios as I see them in the opening credits:
"islet presents"
"a can i watch pictures
production"
"in association with
KVPI"

and the copyright notice

"(c) can i watch pictures"
in the end credits

I can't find any credit for The Samuel Goldwin Company  in the film's credits.
"The Samuel Goldwin company " is credited in the theatrical trailer, though, and on the back cover it reads:
"The Samuel Goldwin Company in association with Islet presents a Can I Watch Pictures / KVPI production"

So, what would you make of this?

The notes are mine. I don't recall what (if any) existed before my update last year or why i didn't include the additional production companies.

I took Samuel Goldwyn Company as the distributor based on the credit block, the top line of which reads just like you describe for the trailer:
Quote:
"The Samuel Goldwin Company in association with Islet presents a Can I Watch Pictures / KVPI production"

This was a small independent film distributed by Goldwyn.

I think the existing are valid and I'd just append the other production companies that can fit.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

OK, if there are no objections to that I would just do that way: append the other studios, and of course move MGM H.E. to MP.
I asked about it because when I audited the Studios I just wrote them down from the opening credits of the movie, but then I noticed that The Samuel Goldwin Company (already in the profile) was missing. After reading your contribution note, I also noticed that indeed it is credited on the back cover in the credit block, moreover it is the only studio credited in the trailer, so it must be the theatrical distributor as you say.
Though, I wondered what takes precedence when the film's credits are different from the credit block.
BTW: "The Samuel Goldwin Company" or just "Samuel Goldwin Company"?

I would imagine the film takes precedence if they differed wildly from the jacket.  Given that these align except for Goldwyn not being lead-off in the film credits i'd lead off with the obvious distributor (Goldwyn) and fill in from there.

As to whether it is "The Samuel Goldwyn Company" or just "Samuel Goldwyn Company" i don't know.  I just looked and have both forms in my database. "The Samuel..." sounds better but sorts oddly.

Makes sense.

It seems they used both forms themselves!

I always give precedence to the film credits.  Names can change over time and the credit block on the case usually refers to the name at the time the DVD was released rather than when the film was released.

If I remember correctly, the name of the company is "The Samuel Goldwin Company".  The word 'company' is not a company suffix.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.
