Good evening, Sirs,

obedient as I am I always copied overviews from the back of the DVD case exactly as written.

Unexpectedly enough I'm getting No-Votes now with the included reason "Spelling should be corrected under the rules", and the usual "see others".

Did I miss something? What do we change?

Orthography? Grammar? Even punctuation marks? Do we check comma rules? Do we try to find better formulations??

Love, bbbbb

PS: Of course I wouldn't try to improve formulations in an english-language overview.

Quoting from the rules -

Quote:
Copy the overview from the back of the DVD case exactly as written, including capitalization of words exactly as shown on the back of the case. Separate all paragraphs with a blank line.

They actually say NOT to correct any errors so you should enter it "warts and all".

What Forget said... You do not change anything in the overview... copy it over exactly per back of case.

I agree with the three before me...I have nothing more to add.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Just to add more support to what the previous users have said...

Whoever is voting NO for the reason given is totally incorrect.  The rules do not allow us to correct anything that is on the cover.  We can ONLY correct typos that were entered by a previous contribution, NOT those that actually exist on the cover itself.

Your interpretation was and is correct -- and those peope voting NO are the ones in error, not you.

The only thing I would add is to note in your contribution notes that the typos exist on the cover.

The Rules do not allow for Overview generated to be corrected, user-generated typoss, Yes. So what are they referring to.

Anyone who believes otherwise has the head stuck in a deep dark hole.

If there is a typo on the cover, it should be in the overview: my understanding, no corrections. Changing back to the typo would be acceptable, the No voters. should point out the error, they see.

Since I first heard of the name skipnet I stood under the impression, that we should try to record the data as exactly as (technically) possible. Not as we would like it to be.

The said contribution: 4-038637-170601, 3 green, 4 red.

Thank you, Sirs.

Absolutely correct, bbbbb.

User-generated typos are one thing, alleged typos whicjh are generated by the Overview is data which actually exists, to correct that we cross into the land of imagination and hallucination and are no longer dealing with DATA.

Sorry, wrong answer. I will not argue what I have ion a private message in reply to you. I will not even go to the full length of explaining the difference between DATA and INFORMATION*. To say those of us who do know German spelling [or English or any other language] are imagining or hallucinating when correcting wrong language is highly inflammatory.

I can easily understand a position to leave in any kind of garble - even if I do not appreciate it - but telling me and the other three who obviously know German better than a stupid copy writer in a badly lit cubicle we are in a fantasy land is not discussion, it's pure insult.

If you, Skip, and bbbbb want to make up their own club in which correct is only what is incorrect, where data is only data when it conformes to your specific interpretation of the language of the rules as set in stone, where wrong is right - well, do so. But please be honest enough to say in debates that it is your perspective, your interpretation, not some god's word.

PS: The rule cited by Walt Disney to me in PM states 'capitalization of words exactly'. We are not dealing with capitalization - and here the rule shows it comes from English-language makers - but with proper spelling. It is also not a question of bold or italicised.

*Sorry, took the speling of data from the dog's owner and to be consistent capitalised my addition, too.

Actually Skip is right, Evo. The rules clearly state;

Overviews
Copy the overview from the back of the DVD case exactly as written, including capitalization of words exactly as shown on the back of the case. Separate all paragraphs with a blank line.

There ain't much room for interpretation here, so any Overview containing "typos" would be entered into profiler including the "typos", regardless of any persons knowledge of language.

Yes, like it or not, bbbbb is correct this time.
Overview has to be copied, INCLUDING typos.
The rules leave no room for other interpretations.

Sorry Evo, you are dead wrong. The place to correct typos which are not user-generated is locally ONLY. BTW you paresd the sentence incorrectly take it as a whole, there is no punctuation in the sentence that allows you to parse it to create your interoretation.. Follow the Rules, Evo.

Agree with everyone else (except Evo). To bbbbb, if you haven't done so, try updating the contribution notes to explain the typos are exactly as written on the cover text, and PM the no voters to explain this as well, and include the exact contribution rule text that backs this up as well as a link to this thread. I find most reasonable people will change their vote, if you point out their no vote is voting against rules.

Evo, you are wrong, no matter what language the overview is in, we contribute it EXACTLY as written on the cover, even if the cover has 25 typos.
You get this alot with Hong Kong DVDs, sometime the spelling is insanely bad, but I still copy it EXACTLY as on the cover.
Those are the rules.
If we do not stick to them we would have hourly discussions and a huge mess.

greetings
Donnie
