Overviews: Complete Series/Season & Anthologies of Episodes - A simple list of Episodes may also be added to the standard overview. Do not add episode synopses to the overview field, but these can be added to the local non-contributed "Notes" field.

I suggest that this be changed to "must also be added".

Why? Because a contribution was rejected on what appears to solely be due to my not including (well, more correctly, for removing) the episode list -- for reasons that I explained -- before submitting. Although there may have been another reason for which I was not told, there were no other types of objections by voters to my submission other than that fact ..... But if the episode list is only optional then it shouldn't be a deciding factor either way.

Since that seems to be how members expect it, then this rule change will fix that.

I can agree to a mandatory episode list in the overview.

I say leave it as is. Locally I do not include the episode list. I am contributing overviews, when there aren't any yet, but I am not including an episode list (and I won't start with it). But I also won't remove it, when there is already one online.
And it has worked for now very well. If someone bothers to submit an episode list, it's okay. If someone doesn't want to, that is also okay. Only removing an existing is not okay.

I agree with this. If there's an episode list already in the Overview, I would not agree with the removal unless there was a very good reason, like it was the wrong episodes.

I don't think it needs to be change at all.  Changing it would force people to enter an episode list whether they want to or not.  That is something we should not force on users.

That being said, based on your explanation, your contribution was declined because you were removing valid data.  Yes, the rules do say that "a simple list of Episodes may also be added to the standard overview," but that only means you don't have to add one when you contribute.  It does not, however, mean you can remove it.  Once any 'optional' data is accepted, assuming it is correct, it can't be removed with the claim that it isn't required.

The rules should not be wishy/washy if possible, either none or must.
Personally I would go with must, with dates id they are provided by the distributor.

With that reasoning you also are targeting the uncredited cast rule:
"Uncredited actors may be listed in alphabetical order following all credited actors. Use the "Uncredited" checkbox to indicate these. Uncredited actors are not required entries."

This means, this should be changed to either having to include all uncredited actors, or leaving them off completely.

I say, leave both as is. Strange how part of the rules, which worked for a long time now, are suddenly put into question.

I think leave it as it is.  Some shows don't list episode titles, but have made up/agreed titles listed on third-party sites, and I don't like anything that requires a third-party site to be used.  Then there are shows that have episode titles which officially are "Episode 1", "Episode 2" where listing the titles is somewhat pointless.  Also, I'll sometimes do profiles when I've watched none or only some of a series... if I have to watch it to get the titles, often that will mean spoiling the beginning, so I for one would contribute less if it went from optional to mandatory.

On a somewhat related question... I have a disc that list the episodes on the cover, and also lists them in the menu. One of the episodes is called "A Man's Path" on the cover, but "The Man's Path" in the menu. I'm guessing the menu takes priority over the packaging, but what do you think?

Is either listed in the episode on screen credits?  If so i'd use that as the tie-breaker.

I think any data except title is optional in DVD Profiler but that doesn't mean you are free to remove them once entered.
