Hello all,

Skip today sent me a note via a contribution I made (all good there!!)

I sent a contribution change for B.Galactica 4.0 disc 2 (ICEEAD8788CF71D59) many days ago. Today I got a no from Skip (all good there!) with the reason that someone contributted this title with more details... (If the extra details were from 'crew' I will be angry.. when I sent that title as a new entry, many crew added were deleted - probably because they were 'unimportant'

My question: When I made that contribution, I know that what I was sending was as complete as I could have made it. Can a 'standing' contribution (in the process of a vote) be supplanted by another contribution of the same title? I am asking this because I have looked at 'unvoted pending contribution' and I only see my title...

Thanks!

Eric

It is possible that a contribution could still be pending when you submit yours, but be accepted shortly afterwards. It mainly happens on new releases when quite a few people start submitting the new information.
Best thing to do is check the contribution notes just after you've submitted your changes. You'll see any other submissions just above yours so you can make a call on whether to withdraw or not.

It is possible to have more than one submission on the same title at the same time - so don't worry about cancelling out someone else's submission. But what can happen sometimes is if someone has submitted a full cast list, then someone else comes along and submits only a partial cast list then if both are accepted, the later submission could remove the data added by the first.

If your information is correct then the "No" vote is a violation of the rules.

In addition, quoting from the rules, bolding by me -

Quote:
Read the prior Contribution Notes. They will give you information about contributions that other users have made. There are two specific things that you need to be particularly aware of:

    * Have other users verified discrepancies between the cover and the actual disc information? If so do not contribute the incorrect box information again.
    * Are there pending contributions from other users, which have yet to be evaluated by Invelos screeners? If so, you need to ensure that your contribution will not overwrite pending corrections with incorrect information again. Or are you duplicating the contribution that is pending, just contributing the same information again?

Looking at that, the 2nd one to be submitted is the one that needs to be changed & not submitting the info that is included in the first (Hope that makes sense!)

Edit: For north, a submission was made several days after lost made his - Lost did his on 7 Jan, the other 12 Jan.

My apologies. I thought he was talking about an earlier submission.
Yes, Forget is right - even if someone else has submitted a fuller profile than you after yours, it's only good manners to wait for yours to be complete, then add the extra info.
And five days is a lot after! Stand your ground Eric!

Yeah, I just looked out of curiosity and I noticed who the "someone" was who submitted the later contribution.
Skip, it is absolutely not on voting "no" on someone's contribution just because five days later you decide you want to submit the same info.

Skip's contributions do bring up a different question...actually, this is the second time this has come up...the original scans that lost submitted were for the R1 Canada version of the release.  Skip is replacing them with the US version.

The last time this happened he added a Canadian rating to an R1 US release.  Mine was the only 'no' vote, and the contribution was approved, so I had to go back and correct the profile.

With that in mind, I am beginning to wonder whether or not lost is contributing to the right locality?

If that's the case, that's a valid reason for a "no" vote, but that doesn't seem to be the reason given.

No, that wasn't the reason given and, on that point, I agree with you.  As I said, it just raised the question in my mind as this is the second time this has happened.

Looking through the contribution notes, the Canadian cover was done as part of the initial contribution. The no for the addition in question was only for "a better contribution".

Thanks all. I will let the title there and let the 'decider' of the database make the call..

Regarding front and back cover.. I always.. always.. always check on US site before submitting scan I make in Canada to ensure that it is in fact available in the USA. IF it is then I contribute! :-)

Now if someone is sending 'new' picture scan for the sake of replacing picture because he wanna do so.. That said, if the scan I sent did not have the US rating (which they do not) I will obviously vote yes on the submitted scan if they have the US rating *sheesh, not a 'beauty contest' haha

Eric
p.s. I order movies from bestby.ca, amazone.ca and amazone.com (B.Galactica came from the US company, therefore I assumed the copy I had was the same as you guys!!!)

The R1 market can be complicated with regards to localities as very often the same DVDs will be sold on both sides of the border.
My advice to Eric would be: if your DVD has both US and Canadian ratings, then either locality is fine. If it has only Canadian ratings only submit for Canada, US rating only, then submit only for US locality.
Don't go by where you bought it from - I've had US DVDs from Canadian stores in the past, and I'm sure on one occasion vice versa too.

Hence why I was mentioning that I will vote any day on contribution that has the US rating on it will be voted yes on my part any days if it is not on a submission done by me :-)

Eric:

You can always drop me a note. Wait til you see what i did with your back image on the Box, I couldn't get a decent scan off of mine, so I used yours. If you want you can forward me your file copy, which I presume is higher res than Profiler's and I'll punch that up and set it back. I hope somebody can get a good scan of the region 1 US back cover.<shrugs> I can't get them all.
