Why would Sony let Microsoft, and the Xbox, cut into that advantage? | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. how could Sony stop them if MS decided to make a Blu-Ray drive? Unless I am missing something, Sony is one of the companies that holds the rights to the technology. Microsoft would have to buy a license to produce the drives. I don't see Sony allowing them to buy one. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. If Microsoft pays they license: the can do Blu-ray. | | | Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Unless I am missing something, Sony is one of the companies that holds the rights to the technology. Microsoft would have to buy a license to produce the drives. I don't see Sony allowing them to buy one. I understand that they are one of the companies. I don't think that will allow them to prevent Microsoft from obtaining a License if they desired. I'd love to see the court battle that would ensue if Sony tried to deny them a license if they applied. I'm no legal expert and don't know all the wording on obtaining a license, but I somehow doubt they can deny a license because it would cause competition with their product. Besides, Microsoft doesn't seem to think it will be a problem, because I've read statements from them about a Blu-ray add-on being a possibility if they felt there was consumer desire for it (or something along those lines) |

While it is possible, I find it hard to believe that Microsoft would win an unfair competition law suit...seeing as how they have been sued for the exact same thing. It would certainly save me some money as I already have a 360. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. I am not saying it wouldn't be anti-competetive. I'm just saying that Microsoft would be the wrong company to make that claim. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
