I will agree that most his movies are pretty bad or even awful but I can think of 2 that were actually good:
Under Siege Executive Decision (he was only in it briefly but he was in it)
Also Under Siege 2: Dark Territory was reasonable.
Just my 2 cents.

Based on a personal dislike of the man, or you've discovered you simply don't like his movies? I'm asking because while I can see disliking a certain director's work, most people of his caliber will strike gold on certain moments of their career. In his case (although I like some of his other stuff too) I'd say Platoon is that moment. Provided someone likes war movies to begin with, Platoon feels like a movie it would be hard not to appreciate. Other relatively mainstream efforts of his include Wall Street and Any Given Sunday. This is turning into a bit of an Oliver Stone defense post. That wasn't my intent. I was merely curious about your reasoning for dismissing all his movies. | Posted: | | | | And to answer the question... The Scary Movie series (so far anyway) The Lizzie McGuire Movie (yes, I once had to sit through this... ) Strangely I can't think of anything else. | Posted: | | | | Well, I can't agree with both posters voicing their opinion first in this thread. The early Seagal movies, "Above The Law", "Hard To Kill", "Marked For Death", "Deadly Revenge" and "Under Siege" are excellent examples of 80's action cinema and Oliver Stone has some exceptional movies under his belt by now, "Platoon", "Wall Street", "Talk Radio", "Born on the 4th of July", "JFK", "The Doors", "Natural Born Killers", "U-Turn", "Any Given Sunday" are just excellent examples of filmmaking. What I seriously regret seeing (and owning, in part) is anything from the Uwe Boll catalogue, as THAT is a picture perfect example of "how-not-to-shoot-movies-but-still-manage-to-blow-away-a-million-dollar-budget". That's bad filmmaking and hurtful to the eye from beginning to finish, as opposed to Oliver Stone, and Steven Seagal would actually be a class A actor in those movies (and that's REALLY saying something). | | | Lutz |

Some people, and I'm not saying that this is the case here, just can't get past the personal politics and enjoy the movie. I know some folks who can never watch a Jane Fonda movie. It's their loss if that's how they judge things, but it's certainly their perogative to do so. Ironically, my wife refuses to watch John Wayne because she sees him as a misogynist. The good news is all I have to do is put one of his movies on in order to clear the room. |

If by some chance an actor/actresss/director give me pause and I believe that THEY are the direct cause of my not enjoying a movie then I will be very weary in the future of films they are in (or movies that they direct) in the future. I will not "not watch" the movie, but I might not actually purchase it. The whole "grain of salt" thing comes into play. I'm not all that ashamed to say that I've actually enjoyed all of the movies that Johnny Knoxville's been in that I've seen. Except for the last one that I watched tonight ( Daltry Calhoun) Does this mean that I'll never watch a Knoxville movie again??? Hell no. I might not expect as much though... which is kinda sad. | | | Peter

| Posted: | | | | I will not watch or buy anything with Tom Cruise. For starters I do not think he is that great of an actor and his belief system (the mother ship is coming, psychology is BS) just ruin the rest of it for me. |

Have you seen the parody videos of Cruise's leaked Scientology video?
Go to funnyordie.com or gawker.com to see a few.
Having sat through the 8 minute original I think that's the funniest or the scariest depending on your perspective.
Darxon makes a good point about Uwe Boll --- I just saw "In the Name of the King" a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty awful.

| Posted: | | | | I can't say that I have any such reserverations. Although there are categories that I don't like too much (horror for instance) and where I have very few films.
And as far as I know I don't own any movie older than 1960 and very few older than 1970, but that has nothing to do with "I would never buy" just with a lack of interest. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | I used to own all the movies from Steven, his 'early' work, on video... when I switched to DVD, and now Blu, I just haven't bothered to buy it. Most likely because better movies are available. But I dooo think Under Siege and Under Siege 2 are nice ones with Steven in it.. I'd sat Exec Decision isn't a Seagal movie, nice though.. As for Oliver Stone, I don't like some of his movies but I do like others.
I don't like psycological horror movies, or movies like Hostel and Saw. A good old-fashioned horror is okay by me. And that is something I wouldn't have in my collection, at least not by my own choice. | | | Jean-Paul |
