I haven't gotten around to converting my 2.5 data yet, so I haven't seen Profiler 3.0 in action, but I have read the "What's New."  I was hoping that my most-wished-for feature would get implemented but I didn't see it on the list, so I'm asking about it here.  When one has a multi-movie box set that is a compilation of disks that are available individually, if you enter the UPC for the box, one would think that the download would include not only data on the box but also on all of the constituent disks.  Unless I'm missing something, it doesn't do that now in 2.5.  Does it work the same way in 3.0?  If not, consider this a feature request.  One specific example of this was the recent 14 disk Superman set where, after one had downloaded the data on the box via UPC, one had to separately look up each disk by name.
Regards,

Robert

DVD Profiler 3 does not allow profile within profile within profile.
Trying to add a profile to a profile which is already part of a profile gives a warning (ok button) dialog.

As for any of the 2.5 features... I don't know...(former 2.4 user).

So does this mean that when I add say my Indiana Jones Box to profiler, I have to manually add all 3 films too? That's just silly. Often the separate discs aren't even existing (separate) editions. Can't we just add say three cast and crew lists, like we do with those dividers in series?

The short answer is that you can set it up any way you want in your local DB (on your PC).

The long answer is No.  A movie boxset (with a few exceptions) requires a master profile for the box, and then each movie is a separate profile attached to the master.  Those profiles may or may not have a UPC - if they don't use the Disc ID.  In the case of Indiana Jones, however, I believe each of the child profiles is in the database, as is the master.  Download them and attach the children to the master and you're done.

I think you'll find as the database gets rebuilt that most movies that are part of a boxset are already profiled individually, at least in R1.  Older and obscure movies may not be.  If not, add them yourself as you go.

Ok, but even then. Can't profiler download those child profiles itself? My point was that I shouldn't have to add 11 profilers for a Box Set with 10 dvds. It's a bit of a hassle .

This not really all that desirable, as Disc-IDs may vary. So, since you might want to make sure you add "your" Disc-ID anyway, the best method should be to "Add by Disc-ID"; in most cases, you should find, the profiles are already available.

I don't think that a (possible) varying in Disc IDs makes the feature of an automatic download of child profiles associated with the parent less desirable.

First off, there are also child profiels that are indentified by their own UPC /EAN, so Disc IDs are not really a factor for these.

Secondly, I think it's less burdening to check and possibly change the disc ID in your local db if you're so inclined to actually list the ID present in your collection than to have to look for the children manually (which, in case of disc IDs, you probably won't find, because the ID may differ...).

I'd LOVE to have this feature implemented

For a master profiler and say one of the slots: Is disc id variations really that common?

Why not auto download child profiles when there are no variations?
