I've just bought the Alec Guinness - In the Frame Collection.

It's a set box with six DVDs in cardboard envelopes.

Nowhere on the set box cover, neither front or back, it shows the name "Alec Guinness".

On the front cover it reads:

IN THE FRAME - ICONS OF FILM (vertical, along the left side)

The Bridge on the River Kwai
Cromwell
H.M.S. Defiant
Murder by Death
"Our Man in Havana"
The Prisoner

I guess it should be contributed as

Title: The Bridge on the River Kwai/Cromwell/H.M.S. Defiant/Murder by Death/Our Man in Havana/The Prisoner

Edition: 'In the Frame' Collection

while I would choose 'Alec Guinness - In the Frame Collection' as my local Sort Title.

Would you agree?

Other "In the Frame" collections, like Anthony Hopkins and others, all look like the Alec Guinness collection, showing "In the Frame - Icons of Film" and the list of movies, no references to the actors.

That certainly is an awkward one, and I think what you have now is probably the best way to deal with it. The only thing I would change would be to make the edition: "In the Frame: Icons of Film" to match the front cover.

I am going to disagree.  I believe it should be contributed as 'In the Frame: Icons of Film'.  The titles should go to the individual child profiles.

Why would you Audio Blank?  Oh, because the six films all have differant audio formats?  Then with that reasoning you should have the title as 'In the Frame: Icons of Film'.. Not only would it fit properly in the space provided, but the box set would be  properlycontributed  as a Box set of Classic Icons of Film., In this case  Alec Guiness..,,  .

Why? The movie titles are on the cover, just like in double and triple features.

By the way, if you contributed "In the Frame: Icons of Film" as title, you would end up having that same identical title for a good many profiles, as the cover is just like that for Hopkins, Bogart, Poitier and other collections.

Because they are in a smaller font and not on the spine.

That may be, but the title of this series of Box Sets is "In the Frame: Icons of Film".  As I said, just my opinion.

But the Rules just says to take the title from the front cover,  no mention of the spine, nor of how big it is written. Otherwise, what would the title of 'Kinsey' be?

Besides, as far as I understand, Collection names should be entered in the Edition field.

You are correct, there is no mention of the spine, nor is there anything about how big it is.  However, you still have to decide what the title is.  I simply gave my methodology.

I would agree in most cases.  Where I would disagree is when the 'collection' name is the title of the Box Set..."Ray Harryhausen: The Early Years Collection" or "The Jack Ryan Special Edition Collection".

It is unfortunate that they did not include the actor's name on the cover.  If they had, I think this would have been an easy one.

Yep, I wonder why. Maybe legal/rights issues?
However, their box sets are sold online as "Alec Guinness Collection", "Humphrey Bogart Collection", "Sidney Poitier Collection", and so on. And (while my partiality lies with a different choice, like I said), I'll bet there are going to be contributions with "[Actor name] Collection" in the Title field.

The reason I figured this should go in the edition field, is because all the boxes are called this. In my eyes, that makes it a collection name, not a title.
If we did put it in the title field, there'd be a few of them all with the same name so it would make it very difficult to pick the right one.

The box-set profile has been accepted and released.

Now I am doing the child profiles, contributing them by Disc ID, as they have no individual UPC on the individual packaging. The problem is, some Disc IDs are already in use to identify other editions of the same movie (having no UPC, I guess). For instance, The Bridge on the River Kwai, same Disc ID: 8D20-8C3B-3E5D-89D7 , and same Locality (UK), as the disc in the box-set.  Anyway, the content of the disc seems to be exactly identical (features, format, regions, audio tracks, subtitles... and cast and crew, of course) while only the packaging (including cover images, case type, DVD release date...) is different. I guess I should leave all the original data of the prior edition, right?

That's right, the initial release gets priority, though usually what I do is overwrite the images in my local collection so they match the new boxset.
