Yeah I know that the rules states to take the film credits only from the actual credits of the film/tv series.

But is it ok to include basic cast/crew info of a pre-release title in which info can be obtained from the DVD case itself, an official site, press releases or similar means.

And what about roles? Same thing, if the roles can be found and backed up by verifiable sources.

Just wondering cause I see some pre-releases up for vote with basic cast/crew attached.

As long as you state your source(s), it should be ok. As long as you avoid the dreaded "3rd party".

I would wait for the release and take the Cast/Crew from the film's credits.

I've seen pre-releases where they've listed the film's stars in the cast list etc. and to be honest, as long as the sources were ok I wouldn't vote no. It's just something I'd never submit myself - I don't see the point.

It's better to leave the cast and crew info blank until the DVD is officially (has been) released.

The rules say "film credits only".

The DVD case itself is not the end credits.

An official site is not the end credits.

Press releases are not the end credits.

"Similar means" is not the end credits.

So the answer is no on all counts.

There are many other acceptable ways to obtain the film credits. From another medium (vhs, vcd, laserdisc etc) and of course from a previous DVD release of the same film. Just remember to state where you got your info in your sources.

No problem with that if it's only the principal actor of the cast and the director. But if it have a complete cast with the role and a complete crew it's not so corect. This is with a new release, if it's a re-release these informations can come from the other edition). I  give you an exemple :

approve pre-release profile of "caligula" 3-disc edition)

Cast :
Malcolm McDowell
Helen Mirren
Peter O'Toole
John Gielgud
Teresa Ann Savoy
John Steiner
Mirella Dangelo
Adriana Asti
Leopoldo Trieste

The cast and crew was update with the film credit after that.

I've only submitted one cast list before the dvd came out, but I had a dub of a screener (or a download of it, some friends are shadier than others so when they offer me new movies, I don't ask ) and it got approved. Sure enough when I bought the real disc a couple weeks later, all the info was the same.
I'd say if you get a copy early, or a screener, or even an old dvd/laser/vhs the cast and crew credits should be the same barring a different cut of the film. Studios may change, but the majority of info will remain solid.
Like others have said, be sure to mention where you got the info if you submit early.

For TV shows in particular, credits can sometimes go through minor changes between the TV airings and the DVD release. I have come across this but damned if I can remember what it was.

Yup, I've seen this happen on numerous episodes of "Buffy" and "Angel".
