OK, I was trying to come up with something witty to say but I'm tired and can't, so here:

From the Digital Bits:

On the DVD front, MGM has announced Erik the Viking: The Director's (Son's) Cut for release on 12/4. No kidding - you'll find the cover art below. Additional details will follow soon.

Let's all cross our fingers and wish really hard that it actually makes it out this time.

Haven't seen this flick in about 20 years. Everyone had a VHS copy and they all disappeared or broke, same with the rental copies in town. I'm hoping it comes out as I remember laughing til it hurt and would love to see it again.

It was supposed to be released here but was pulled at the last minute, no explanation offered. I noticed that they've changed the cover art for this one.

Now that you mention it, yes I did. Then I was going to order it, then I forgot all about it. Then thought about it when I was broke, and forgot again when I had money. Now I'll wait and see if this comes out. Is it still in print in R2? Just in case.

Just read this on another site (horrordvds) and the poster claims he got it in a press release.

"Take a trip through the dark ages with a former member of the legendary comedy troupe, Monty Python, and popular historian Terry Jones when Erik the Viking: Director’s Son’s Cut arrives on DVD December 4 from MGM Home Entertainment. The witty, pythonesque satire of Viking life based on Norse mythology was adapted from the children’s fantasy book, The Saga of Erik the Viking, and directed by Jones for his son. According to Jones, "When the film came out in 1989 I was not happy at all with it. With the Monty Python movies I'd been a hands-on editor, yet with Erik The Viking I didn't get involved in the process until too late. I've always thought there was a better film in there, waiting to get out, and this new version is it!" The new and never-before-seen version has been edited and re-cut to 75 minutes by Jones’ son with re-ordered scenes, a tighter pace and a remixed and re-dubbed soundtrack."

I'm all for director's cuts, but really hope the original is still available now. Doubtful it will be on the upcoming dvd.

Yes, still available. I believe you might be able to get the original cut over here too - but that's a lot older so a lot harder to track down.

That is what I'm talking about. Not even waiting for the US version which probably won't have the theater cut and just went and ordered from an amazon.uk seller.
Thanks everyone!

You may not want to post the front & back high res images in the forums as these are only supposed to be available to paid for registrations, but the forums are open to all members.

Cool - I didn't even realise the original cut was in there too. In that case it definitely is available still!
