But wouldn't it be nice to see that the CLT numbers have changed?
If DaddyDVD/Martin had included the CLT numbers in his notes, one couldn't come back later and say that his contribution was wrong, just that the situation have changed

And why not include the numbers? It's not that hard. After all you're looking them up when you make the contribution. It's just a matter of copy and paste and the voters wouldn't have to look up the numbers themselves.

I can't see a single reason for not including the numbers.

BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm quite sure it's not because they make mistakes "wrong" data get through. The only reason the guidelines have been renamed to rules is to stop the real idiots from entering what they like, users who know what they are doing will not and should not be stopped to enter data which do not follow the rules to the letter but still can be considered correct. It's been called "functional equivalent" in the rules forum and I can understand why this phrase has not be added to the rules yet, because it will leave to much room for interpretation.

No, the guidelines were renamed rules so that everybody was on the same page.  It was done to prevent ping-ponging based on personal preference.

Using your logic, who gets to decide which users are 'real idiots' and which 'know what they are doing'?  Do we each get to decide for ourselves or is it a 'majority rules' situation?  I am sorry, but the rules have to apply to all users equally or they are meaningless.

Now, I do understand that there are cases where the rules prevent correct data from being entered...OCB & OMB...but for the vast majority of crew credits, the rules are quite clear and should be followed.

I'm not going to explain the obvious. I expect people to be smart not stupid. If anything will change we will always be able to check it with the CLT again.

The rules tell you to, "make your notes useful and descriptive."  Simply telling users what you changed, without documenting that the change is correct, does neither.

It is this attitude of being 'above the rules' that brings out the harshness I exhibited in my previous post.

Ah, but it is an exact science.  If the credit matches one of the roles allowed by the rules, then it is considered correct and can be entered.  If it doesn't, then it considered incorrect and can't.  The only time there is a problem is when people decide to ignore the rules in favor of personal preference.  Sadly, it seems that a lot of people are trying to do just that.

May I remind you to "Special Creature Design", "Story adapted from xy's z by", "Senior Art Director", "photographed in Technicolor by", "based on", "developed by", "dubbing mixer", "Based on the book by" etc.

"Special Creature Design", "Senior Art Director", "photographed in Technicolor by", "dubbing mixer" are not really OCB or OMB credits, are they. I still think, we need functional equivalents allowed by the rules.

Yet another thread going to great lengths to explain why I've stop contributing.....

It's all a bunch of utter rubbish.

I'm usually pretty mild mannered and careful not to offend....but, recent threads and utterly stupid, stupid, stupid people in this forum make me use words like 'stupid'.

Here's my advice to all.....

Stop contributing. Keep your data to yourself. Have it the way you want it. Stop coming in the forum.

Do the above and you'll have a much more peaceful existence.

I know many users who have done exactly what I suggest above and I get the occasional PM from them. They're happy and well adjusted.

Sound nice, doesn't it?!

I said that I understood that there are cases where the rules prevent correct data from being entered.  To emphasise that statement, I gave two examples.  Did I really need to give EVERY example to make my point?  I didn 't think I did but, I guess, I was mistaken.

No, of course not! But would you still call it exact science?

For most credits?  Yes, it is an exact science.  Are there places where it isn't?  Sure.  But those are the exception, not the rule.

There is no such thing as exact science but only for most cases.

Maybe 'exact science' wasn't the best choice of words but, for the most part, every section is fairly straight forward.

That's what I wanted to point out.
Now, I would prefer, if the wording of the rules would also admit that there are exceptions to the rule (e.g. by allowing functional equivalents).

Speaking for myself, I just don't understand anybody that let's these forums affect them that much.  I will admit that I have gotten a little miffed on occasion, but never enough to walk away or stop contributing.

Because when you read remarks from people stating they would vote no on data they know to be correct, but you didn't document it to their satisfaction or would vote no on a submission you made if it has incorrect data you didn't even submit, really, what's the point?

I keep all of my changes local now, because it's not worth the headache to try and please everyone. I can just please myself and be happy.
