I believe the proposal was to drop nicknames that were in quotations e.g. John "The Man" Doe; not every nickname, e.g. Bob, Jim, Dave, etc. Correct. |

Get it? Yeah, and just who gets to pick that 'common name', eh? You? Tim? I don't think so. As long as ANY personal preference comes into play, and there are no standards on how to determine what the common name is, I will NOT use it. | | | John

I think we have a winner.
"Common Name" is not defined in the rules, right? Why not, informally at first, put it in the rules eventually, say the "Common Name" is the first credited name an actor or crew member used in the first film they received credit. This is generally easy to find among the various databases, and even if we discover an earlier film with a different credit, then it only needs to be changed once... I doubt that we will find film after film produced earlier and earlier for these people.
Forget about most commonly used name, which could change quickly given these peoples' careers... Each one of 'em only have one first film... Ron Howard's first acting credit: Ronny Howard... done. | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Yeah, and just who gets to pick that 'common name', eh? You? Tim? I don't think so. As long as ANY personal preference comes into play, and there are no standards on how to determine what the common name is, I will NOT use it. We get to pick the common name and we get to vote on it! You and Skip can always find some oddball case where it will be hard to pick a 'common name', but in most cases it will not be very hard. John, I know that this is hard for you, but we now have two fields for the name; 'common name' and 'credited as'. The name listed in the credits goes into the 'credited as' slot. If an actor or a crew member is commonly known by a different name we enter it in the 'common name' slot. It is just not that hard, even you could do it. Now the real question is; because you are someone that feels that having both actors with the name 'Harrison Ford' list together is OK, but 'Robin Wright' should not be listed with 'Robin Wright Penn', why should we listen to you? pdf | | | Paul Francis San Juan Capistrano, CA, USA |

That's funny, when I said similar things about rules, you said I was "whining" and "complaining" ... Ken has decided, now you take the information and do what you want. | | | Images from movies |

Skip Skip, I'm tempted to go with your proposal. However, I've done some more searching but I cannot find a single Robert "Bobby" as you mention. There's plenty of Robert "Bobby Z" credits around though. Can you let me know which titles you found that have him credited as Robert "Bobby" please ? |
